Cannot connect to Comcast's SMTP

I have not been able to run Pegasus Mail because I get " Protocol error: The server has unexpectedly refused or failed a request made by Pegasus mail".

Transactions is as follows:

[*] Connection established to 76.96.30.117
>> 0070 220 omta10.emeryville.ca.mail.comcast.net comcast ESMTP server ready
<< 0022 EHLO [192.168.1.101]
>> 0087 250-omta10.emeryville.ca.mail.comcast.net hello [76.102.143.192], pleased to meet you
>> 0010 250-HELP
>> 0022 250-AUTH LOGIN PLAIN
>> 0019 250-SIZE 15728640
>> 0025 250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES
>> 0014 250-8BITMIME
>> 0008 250-OK
>> 0014 250 STARTTLS
<< 0047 MAIL FROM:<qenterprises@comcast.net> SIZE=422
>> 0035 550 5.1.0 Authentication required

I don't need authentication for my Outlook mail. Do I need it somehow for PM?

Thank you for your advice, I hope it is a simple one, and it's just me not knowing much about server protocols.

You need it for both Outlook and Pegasus Mail when sending through this server.  I would have expected that you would have needed to use either STARTTLS or SSL as well.

David Harris has implemented ESMTP AUTH CRAM-MD5 for WinPMail.  It does a SMTP authentication in accordance with RFCs 2554 and 2195.  It will also do the LOGIN and the strange MS AUTH=LOGIN.

Go to Tools | Internet  options | (Sending) SMTP, edit the SMTP configuration, select the "Security" tab and then select the SMTP Authorization option as specified by your ISP.  Most require the the second or third SMTP Authorization option
