It would have been easier to figure out the solution if you had mentioned that Pegasus Mail was crashing ...

I can't get rid of the "Mailbox is Locked" message on startup.  In the past, hitting "continue" was okay.  No more.   

Help.

Check for a file in the mailstore directory named mailboxp.lck while Pegasus is closed. This file may be readonly not allowing Pegasus to overwrite/delete. Do you have a new antivirus installed?

Thanks.  I don't see anything on the file that says "read only" (this is Vista).  It is empty (0 KB) if that tells you anything.  Under file properties I found something that showed me a "shadow copy" of the file from the day before the lock-out.  I hit "restore" and tried to boot PM again -- same thing: locked out.  As to any new anti-virus software, no.  It happened when I was traveling, had my cell phone tethered up to the laptop (verizon mobile broadband), something went kablooie....  I tried downloading a fresh copy of PM (reinstalled over the other one), but that didn't work....

It's always empty, it is just exists as long as any application (Pegasus Mail or Mercury) uses a mailbox. IOW: You've got to find out what application keeps the file locked: Can you delete the file manually? Did you try rebooting your system? Can you delete it after doing so? If that doesn't help you might need to use a tool monitoring file access.

Issues involving the "Mailbox is locked" message have been reported before, here for example. Hope this helps.
