Selective New HTML mails not opening with double-click.

Thanks, I recieved the sample message and have reviewed it. I can confirm the graphics problem. On looking at the source for the message, there appears to be some truncation and general corruptions. Things like www becoming just ww and various html tags being apparently mis-spelled.

I then notice that AVG version 11 is injecting lines into the message headers block, which indicates that someone in the sender to recipient chain is using real-time AVG email scanning. This is likely the problem. I would suggest that if it is you, then turn off/disable email scanning on AVG's config panel. It causes interference with Pegasus Mail extracting and preparing email message parts.

Hi,

I have installed Pegasus Mail 4.52 on WinXP Pro SP2 machine + AVG Free Anti-virus 2011 + Comodo Firewall 2011.

I can open all plain text mails with a double-click, but same is not applicable for some of the HTML mails.

This does not apply to all HTML mails as I can open a few with the double-click.

This was working fine one week back when I first installed Pegasus Mail.

I was trying out "Display remote-linked graphics in messages" option and entered few email ids as the exception for which I was getting gray boxes instead of pictures in my mail. That's when this issue started.

Now I have removed all the exceptions for remote-linked graphics, but still I can not open mails from some of those email ids by double clicking them.

When I double click such a mail, the following running counters ( the count changes with the mails) are displayed at left bottom in the status bar:

"Cache-hits:12 Download: 0 Total: 12"

How to rectify this issue?

Thanks & Regards,

Rad.

PS:

I can open these mails by clicking on the attachment button on the message ribbon and then switching to message body.

This marks the mail as viewed and moves it to the Main folder, but still I can not open these mails in Main folder by double clicking on them.

I cam think of three things that might have changed on your system. Check your mime-map.pm file in plain text editor and see if the text/html entry is mising. Then check your viewer.pm file in your home mail location for any entry for text/html or html-text entry. Then check your tools, options, incoming mail, message reader setting to see if it is changed. Are you set to display fancy version or multipart?

Is any function or your anti virus software trying to check all HTML opened? I used AVG9 free on XP sp3 and AVG2011 on win7 and never saw any problems or with winpm-32 related to opening of HTML content mails in new mail folder or after stored in mesages folder.

Could you send me a sample problem message (to irelam@telus.net) please ?

Hi Jerry,

Thanks for the reply.

My mime-map.pm has only one entry:

Text/HTML = HTML-text

And viewer.pm does not have any text/html entry:

1;.JPG;.JPG;Internal
1;.GIF;.GIF;Internal
1;.BMP;.BMP;Internal
1;.EMF;.EMF;Internal
1;.WMF;.WMF;Internal

Is any kind of text/html entry expected here?

I have set "Display fancy version" option in message reader. I unchecked that option and tried but without success.

I too don't think AVG has anything to do with this issue. I installed Pegasus Mail around one week back when AVG 2011 was already installed on my system. Also, as I said, this issue came up two days back when I used remote-linked graphics option. Before that, double click used to work for the mails from now affected email ids which are basically newsletters with graphics.

Regards,

Rad.

No entry expected for text/html in the viewer.pm, however I have seen some custom additions long ago. Really no reason with current OS and Browser default set properly.

Send Martin that msg copy for inspection and bearhtml.log if you found it. The only possible thing I could think of is somehow download of graphics cache or blacklist problem with one of the URL for graphics. The inner workings of bearhtml or ierenderer are beyond me<G> I'm and old school "keep html and graphics off" type  person but failure to  open or display of a msg is of concern.

Hi Martin,

I have sent a sample mail which is not opening by double click.

It is a "software new version alert" newsletter from CNet.online.com

Thanks & Regards,

Rad.

Although you don't say so I assume this is about preview mode and you want to open the message in a reader window: Then it's a known issue associated with the time required to render and display the respective message in the preview pane which affects encrypted or signed messages as well depending on the time required for rendering: Unfortunately Pegasus Mail doesn't wait for the system's double-click time to pass before it starts rendering a message in preview mode. The result of this is that while Pegasus Mail (resp. the HTML renderer) is still processing the message after the first click it effectively misses the second click required to be recognized as a double-click so any double-click triggered action fails to execute. Aside from using a button for opening the message you can only hit the <Return> key after selecting the message in its folder instead. Enabling image rendering for the respective messages causes the rendering to last long enough for this issue to occur ...

Thanks Michael,

The <Return> key works fine for opening the mails with HTML rendering issue.

But I was wondering why the mails from same email ids (having graphics as gray boxes) were getting opened with double-click before I tried adding exceptions in remote-linked graphics option in Message Reader. And then even after removing the exceptions, the same mails refused to get opened with double-click.

Thanks & Regards,

Rad.

As long as the graphics are loaded you'll probably see this, only after clearing the cache it should revert to the previous behaviour (Ctrl + Shift + Y).
