Problem with Preview screen, seems locked

Hi,

This has solved my problem as well, thanks for that.

My problem was the same, but more of a pain.

My work laptop has a secondary monitor at work with a larger screen than the laptop screen. When I ran PMail (I use this for my personal emails) on the larger screen, I pulled the preview bar down so that there were only a few lines of preview showing. For some reason it "stuck" there, so that, even after dragging the bar up, when PMail started, the bar was always near the bottom. This was a minor annoyance on the bigger monitor, but when I was at home or travelling without the larger screen, the preview bar was below the bottom of the window, I could not make it large enough to grab the bar and drag it up. So, without an larger extension monitor, preview was effectively permanently off.

Many thanks,[Y]

Garry.

I moved the preview screen top bar down to enlarge the inbox viewing area, and I know I used to do this without problems, but now when I start Pegasus the preview screen top bar doesn't return to its position about halfway up the screen.  Instead, it sits near the bottom, with hardly any portion of the preview screen visible. I looked for a solution, and the only one I found that might be of some use is Tools | Options | Incoming Mail | Message Reader | check the box at "Always save the last window size and position used", however, to no avail.  If anyone knows how to fix this so that the preview screen top edge will remain in the position in which it was last placed, I would be grateful for the help.  Thanks.

Solution for what? If you moved the details ribbon down and you want to move it back upwards why don't you just do so by dragging it with the mouse? And the details ribbon is not supposed to be placed anywhere automatically, it should stay where you drag it. If you don't want Pegasus Mail to keep its desktop settings then disable the respective option on Tools => Options => Basic settings, but it doesn't affect the details ribbon.

Well, I guess there is something to be said for stating the obvious as there is no limit to misunderstandings.  Obviously I drag the detail ribbon back every time I open Pegasus, but it does not remain there when I restart Pegasus.  It always relcates itself at the bottom of the screen.  This is the problem.  Telling me what it should do (but does not do) does not help at all.

Sorry, but that's not what you wrote in your post: ... when I start Pegasus the preview screen top bar doesn't return to its position about halfway up the screen is pretty different from I drag the detail ribbon back every time I open Pegasus, isn't it?

If Pegasus Mail doesn't restore its previous settings there is something preventing it from saving STATE.PMJ in your home mailbox directory: The most frequent reasons for such issues are AV scanners, but another reason might be a silent crash of Pegasus Mail when closing it (which doesn't always trigger the "mailbox locked" dialog on restart so you don't get to know). Try deleting the V4FP= entries from the [General] section (while Pegasus Mail is down), this should restore the preview's default settings, but it won't solve the file save issue, of course. BTW: You're not on Vista or Windows 7 with Pegasus Mail installed into a program files folder, by any chance?

Never having called anything a "detail ribbon" in the past, I wasn't sure how to refer to it.  Thanks for helping clear this up.

Can't see anything that looks like V4FP= or anything starting with V in any of the PMAIL directories.  Can't see a General section either.

As per the example you gave, no.  PMAIL is installed on my partition and has run perfectly well since I transferred over from XP to Win 7 about a year ago (clean install on virgin drive).

This is not a "deal breaker", just an annoyance I would like to rectify.

Looks like we must be using different languages: Both strings should be found in a file called STATE.PMJ in your home mailbox directory (the path of which can be identified via Help => About Pegasus Mail => Info). Maybe I should have mentioned it's a file, but as I was writing about saving STATE.PMJ in a directory I thought this to be clear enough ...

I'm a historian, not a programmer.  However, with this latest indication, I opened with STATE.PMJ with Notepad, found the items in questions in the [General] section, deleted them, saved the file and restarted Pegasus.  Problem solved.  The details ribbon has repositioned itself to the default position.  Thank you :-)
