can only get names, not email addresses, from my address book

Well, the answer did solve my problem, and thanks.  But before I changed the setting, PM was not supplying the addresses, just sending the emails out with the aliases.

Well, the answer did solve my problem, and thanks.  But before I changed the setting, PM was not supplying the addresses, just sending the emails out with the aliases.

I must be overlooking something simple.

I've just started using Pegasus, and set up my address book.  When I look at the individual entries they look fine; there's a name in the "Name [alias]"  space and an email address in the "E-mail address" space.
But when I try to use the address book to address emails, it only adds the _name_ of the entry in the "To" block, not the email address -  "John" instead of "John@gmail.com".  If I send the message, it gets kicked back because there's no domain name.

Any idea of what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

Open the addressbook, select  Book | Addressbook properties "Apply the e-mail address instead of the alias"

If you check this control, then Pegasus Mail will insert the e-mail address from the selected addressbook entries when you use them to create a new mail message. In the default state, with the control unchecked, Pegasus Mail will insert the "Name" field of the entry as an alias.

Thank you! Just wasn't able to find that.

Just out of curiousity, would you know why the default is to put the alias in the address?  You can't send email created that way...when would it ever be used?

I have used PM for quite a few years with the address book alias appearing in the address lines of the message editor. The program apparently supplies the corresponding email address where needed as it processes and sends the message.

The solution to queentut's problem may be more than a matter of checking the control that Thomas indicated in his reply.
