I'm using Pegasus v. 4.52 and have a two-part problem I hope someone can help me with.
First, when I click on the "Work with your mail folders" tab, my New mail folder does not appear in the list. This has not been a major problem, because I could still access the New Mail folder by clicking on the separate icon.
Second, today however I ran into a real problem. Now when I click on the New Mail icon, I get a message that says "Program Error. winpm-32.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Wiindows. You will need to restart the program." The problem is that whenever I restart Pegasus and click on the New Mail folder the same message comes up. Furthermore, because the New Mail folder does not appear in my list of mail folders, I cannot try right-clicking to check consistency, reindex, or any of the other options.
Finally, I don't know the name of my New Mail folder, and am not sure if it will help to know the name.
Any help you can give me will be much appreciated.

New mail messages are individual *.cnm files not in any other folder yet. New Mail is just a visualization of the .cnm files buy other messages folders are a pair of files with same name/number and .pmi index and .pmm data files. Check Help, About... and the Info button to see your home and new mail locations as well as other information.
Your problem may be corrupted .cnm file. Move or rename them all while winpm-32 is closed and then restart Pegasus Mail. If it works ok then move the .cnm files back into new mail location one at a time or in small groups until you find the problem file. Often you can just open the problem file in a plain text editor to identify what it really contains. Also look to see if any *.cnm are zero byte size. If so that is usually the problem file.

This might be caused by a problem within your HIERARCH.PM file (in your home mailbox directory to be found like Jerry described in his previous post). Just for checking this you may create a backup copy of the existing one and delete the original file while Pegasus Mail is closed, after restarting it will create a new one and your new mail folder should show up again. The only disadvantage of this apporach is that all existing trays will be gone, so if you've got a rather complex mailbox hierarchy you might rather want to carefully edit the existing HIERARCH.PM unsing a simple plain text editor like the former NotePad (no Office application!): You can remove lines containing "Name_Unavailable", e.g., but there might be other entries containing invalid data ("garbage").

Thank you, Jerry. That sounds very helpful. I have not been able to try your suggestions yet but will tomorrow morning, and will report back.
Many thanks to Jerry and Michael. I put your two answers together, and it worked like a charm. First, I restored my New Mail folder (or what appears to be a folder) by following Michael's instructions, and then I followed Jerry's instructions to repopulate my new mail. Sure enough, I found a zero byte size .cnm file, and that must have been the culprit.
Thank you again. I really appreciate the time you took to spell it out for me.
