Re setting up Pesasus

Incoming mail works.  The solution was to think outside the box regarding the error message telling me "bad address".  There were 2 empty lines above the correct incoming mail address, which I highlighted to download mail.  Once these were deleted, I was able to both download and open mail in any folder.

Outgoing mail works.  I can't determine why it works as I changed none of the settings that Verizon gave me s weeks ago.

I added a new DSL router to our wireless network at home.  In doing so, my email provider, Verizon, has caused havoc with my using Pegasus.  I used the e mail set up they provided at their website, which is pasted below but it didn’t solve the problem.

User name settings

    * Your Verizon Online user name (for example, vzn12345)
    * Your Verizon Online password (for example, password1)

High Speed Internet (DSL) settings

    * Domain: dsl.verizon.net
    * Network protocol used: TCP/IP

Mail server settings

    * Incoming mail server (POP3): incoming.verizon.net
    * Outgoing mail server (SMTP): outgoing.verizon.net
    * Outgoing Server Port Numbers: 587
    * Your Verizon Online user name
    * Your Verizon Online password

Remote access settings (Dial-up)

    * Domain: verizon.net
    * Network protocol used: TCP/IP
           Note: Remote Access is available only if you subscribe to dial-up roaming with your Verizon High Speed Internet service.

I spoke with their tech support and was given a new set of mail server settings which I’m also listing.

    * Incoming mail server (POP3): incoming.yahoo.verizon.net (port 110)
    * Outgoing mail server (SMTP): outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net (port 587)

This didn’t work nor did any reconfiguring on my part as I am TOTALLY clueless.  Does anyone have any ideas?   If so please respond in the most basis language giving a step by step set up so I can really try to work this out.  Many thanks!

You're not saying what exactly doesn't work. Or are we supposed to take this as 'nothing works'? I think you should be able to receive mail with the above configuration but that sending mail could be a problem, as this is normally done via port 25. Port 587 means that you have to enter some settings under Tools, Internet options, Sending Mail, (and after selecting Edit for the relevant smtp host) Security. Please let us know how you get on.

Cheers!

I am sorry for the lack of information.  I hope that demonstrates how distraught I was and remain.

I am not able to either receive or send mail; nor, am I able to read the mail that has been downloaded and is in a folder unless I select either the "reply" or "forward" option first.  With either selection, the message opens and can then be read.  I have reconfigured the setting in "Internet Options" as Yahoo/Verizon outlined and I listed in my first message.   When I attempt to send or download mail, the error massage is "Bad address"  followed by our correct email address.  Baffling!

Steffan, many thanks for responding.  I hope there's a simple fix.

Looks pretty much like you don't obey the rules.

Michael, thank you for your response.  I checked and found a pmail folder installed on C: drive with subfolders "Mail" and "Programs".

Pegasus Mail is also listed along with all my other programs in Program files.  However there are no Pegasus program folders only  "Pegasus Mail as 'Admin' '' , "Pegasus" both of which open the Pegasus window and a Pegasus users' manual.  So, I think Rule # 1 was followed.  Can you elaborate?

I guess you're referring to the Windows Start menu entries here?

What does nor, am I able to read the mail mean? What's wrong with the display? Can you provide a screenshot (via the Options page of the forum's editor)? I assume you're talking about the three pane preview window? What about opening messages in a reader window?

Please provide Internet session logs: Go to Tools => Internet options => General and tick the checkbox at the bottom - but please read the associated help entry after clicking the Help button - and ensure to not post any personal information like user name and password (you don't need to post anything if you figure out the solution yourself, of course).
