Time off-set not calculating correctly on first e-mail

> Rob, this sounds like it is perfectly reproducable each time Pegasus Mail is launched and there is a (fresh) new mail on top?

Yes, it is very consistant. It was brought to my attention fairly recently. I, personally, never noticed it. I don't pay much attention to the timestamps.

Thanks for the reply,

Rob

Fellow Pegasus Users,

We run Pegasus 4.52. This in not a huge problem but, I want to know if anyone else has seen this behavior.

If while you have Pegasus closed, you recieve mail, upon opening Pegasus, the first e-mail in your new mail folder

will display the time incorrectly. It does not calculate the GMT off-set. So, if the mail was sent at 1100 local time

it will display as 1700 (we are -0600 here). If you close and re-open the new mail folder, it will recalculate and display the time

correctly. Also, if you move the e-mail to a different folder it recalculates and displays the time correctly.

As I said, not a big deal but, wondering why, upon starting Pegasus, the first e-mail is handled incorrectly.

As a side note, one of my users, (and, I have verified this) reported that the first e-mail in their new mail folder always displays as

having been read when they start Pegasus. And, no, they are not using preview mode. :)

Thanks for any input you may wish to give.

Cheers,

Rob

If I'm remembering correctly new mail is always added to the top of the new mail folder display and is not sorted until reopen or a sort is forced. New mail is not a "real" folder as other message folders. It is just display of the *.cnm files and the order in which they arrived.

Yes, I've seen this sort of behaviour, and it's confused the hell  out of me.  Glad to find out that I have not been hallucinating all this time.  :-)

It's just one more minor  hiccup in Pmail's handling of time stamps. Maybe with version 4.61...

This problem was referred onto the WinPMail beta test team (and by extension, to me), and has been undergoing some discussion on the list. A couple of my testers have confirmed that they've seen the problem, or at least, variants of it that sound very similar to this report.

Unfortunately, I've never seen the problem, nor can I see, from an inspection of the code, how it might be happening. What would be helpful here would be if you could do a little experimentation and try to find a totally repeatable scenario in which the problem occurs, then go through that scenario here step by step. This is the sort of problem that will almost certainly be fairly easy to fix once I am able to reproduce it, so the key is finding a scenario I can reproduce.

Cheers!

Thank you for your quick reply, David.

I should note that we run the Netware (NLM) version of Mercury (1.48). We do not use the POP3 protocol in Pegasus but, rather, access the mail folder directly using NDS... if I am explaining that correctly. This occurs on WinXP and Win7. If mail comes in while Pegasus is open, it always displays the time correctly. So, this is really not something that we are pulling our hair out over... more, an odd anomaly.

Thank you for all you do.

All the best to you,

Rob

Thanks for confirming... you could still be halucinating, though. :)

Rob, this sounds like it is perfectly reproducable each time Pegasus Mail is launched and there is a (fresh) new mail on top?
