I just upgraded to V4.61. I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit, on a fairly new I7 PC. PMail now seems to be using an inordinate amount of CPU (13%) even when idle. Can I simply reinstall V4.52 over the new version? Do you have any other suggestions?

Did you use the installer and did it finish successfully? If so, do you have automatic image download enbled for HTML messages? And what's your WINSOCK setting on Tools => Options => Advanced settings"? If it's On demand only please change it to Always and restart Pegasus Mail.

I used the installer and it finished successfully. I do not have automatic image download enabled. That said, changing the WINSOCK setting seems to solve the problem. Thank you.  Why does this affect the performance?

This is a weird issue caused by the Windows library handling in connection with using certain networking functions by both the renderers and Pegasus Mail. It'll not only occur after  downloading images but also after clicking on or moving the mouse pointer across hyperlinks.

WINSOCK setting on Tools => Options => Advanced settings"? If it's On demand only please change it to Always and restart Pegasus Mail.

Hi,

just wanted to tell you, that this change solved my problem with PM 4.52 :

before that, images in html-mails have only been loaded a couple of times, then only after restarting windows.

Since the setting change, all the pictures are loaded, even in mails which never showed them (some newsletters).

UG went smoothly (as expected) on XP Pro.

I've winsock set to  "always" and any email with images is very slooooooow to download. I'm not generally impatient, but this is way too long. Any other suggestions??

This is way to unspecific, sure it takes some time if you download messages containing megabytes of images - or what are you referring to?

I am referring to a formatted email with 7 images and a size of 37k.

Previous version was almost "instant" - whereas this locks the system for the best part of 10 seconds. For me, this is a significant degradation in performance.

Embedded or remote images? If it's the latter do you have auto-download enabled?

Michael,

I think that there are a real performance problem. Two days ago I upgraded to 4.61 and after it all the functions are very, very slow. For example, I have moved a message (with a size of 6Mb) from the INBOX to another folder and the system take more than 5 minutes in the task.

I don't think we're talking about the same issues here, it would have been better to start a new thread about your issue which sounds different - plus, you don't provide the details required to understand your case:

  1. What is the INBOX, please? Is this a local new mail folder or is it an IMAP inbox?
  2. Do you use a stand-alone or a network setup?
  3. What Windows version?

Forgot to ask this again: Did you check your WINSOCK setting on Tools => Options => Advanced settings? Please make sure it isn't set to On demand only, if you're using Pegasus Mail's built-in transport services (POP3/SMTP) and you don't have a very good reason for keeping the "demand" setting change it to Always and restart Pegasus Mail.
