crashes on google news alert link

OK. Thanks. Evidently google changed something in their format recently, because I just started having problems. I'll try sticking with fancy view for now, though I had no idea how many people write to me using huge red fonts! ;-)

Hi all,

I use google alerts, (email messages sent by google everytime certain keywords show up in google news). They have recently changed the format of these messages and now there are problems with the links in the message.

This happened with 4.52 and now I just upgraded to 4.61 and it is still happening.

For each news story, there are two links, one at the top with the title of the story and another following the blurb with the url.

If I so much as mouse over the link at the top, Pegasus crashes. I've reproduced this many time.

The link at the bottom doesn't cause pegasus to crash but it gives an invalid url. Ampersands in the url are as &, not sure if this is the problem.

There are other links in the message, for example to manage or create alerts, and these work fine.

Is there an email address I can send an example message to so you can determine the problem?

This is a major inconvenience for me, as I use google alerts extensively.

Thanks!

Which renderer do you use? I don't see such crashes on my system, with any of them, it only crashes on the Reader's attachment pane where none of the renderers is used but Pegasus Mail's TER reader. Can you please download and install the MiniDump extension for providing us with more details? You'll most probably need to run Pegasus Mail via MiniDump's Start menu group entry called Pegasus Mail Debugger for creating a crash dump, please read MiniDump's ReadMe file for details.

Thanks, the problem is indeed in the html attachment. I set the option "Where choice of format exists, show fancy version" and now I can click on the links in the reader. This is a good work around for me, but there is obviously a problem with the attachment. I download minidump and send more details. Thanks.

This is a known issue with TER's HTML handling and one of the reasons for introducing alternative renderers. It may or may not be possible to fix this as it's a third party module, David Harris already bought an update (thanks to a generous donation) which he's got to incorporate into Pegasus Mail now. BTW: If you don't want to permanently use the "fancy view" you may simply use the button for switching views in reader windows (or press the "V" key).

Now that I know how you get the crash it isn't necessary to provide a crash dump anymore as I can easily duplicate it myself.
