Can't get rid of 'Autosaved messages found' when starting Pegasus

Again: thanks for the fast and relevant replies!

Deleting the .pnl files did the job.

FYI Statistics:

first .pnl: 31-08-2006

last .pnl: 11-4-2011

 # .pnl files: 1159, total 27,5 MB.

(by the way: first send Pegasus-message in my 'copies to self' folder: 27 oct 1996.)

Anyone has an idea to get rid of the Autosaved messages? When starting Pegasus I get a pop-up asking to 'Open' the auto-saved messages or to 'Continue'.  I don't need the auto-saved messages but I can't find a way to delete them.

Other question (maybe related): how to delete the >100 messages in the 'Recent Search Results' tray?

First question:  I presume these are messages in the Draft Manager. Go to:  File - Open Saved Messages.

To delete manually you can check, view in text editor, and then delete the *.pmo files you don't want to keep. Better to do it from  the GUI if possible by doing ctrl+o to view them.

On your other question: Check setting in Tools, Options, Incoming, Folder... and check the setting to save/delete link folder on exit.

Second question:

From the help files:

"Working with search results

When you perform a search, Pegasus Mail creates a special search results folder in an entry called Recent search results near the top of your master list of folders. The search results folder has the text you searched for and the date and time of the search as its name. The search results folder is a special type of folder called a link folder - it does not contain the actual messages that were found in the search, but special links to those messages instead. This means that link folders are very small and efficient, and they can contain references to messages in many other folders. When you select a link folder and view its contents, you will see an extra column at the right of the list of messages: this column shows the name of the folder where the message is actually stored. You can work with link folders in exactly the same way as you would work with any other folder.

Saving and loading searches

If you have particular searches that you perform regularly, you can save them and load them again at any time. Simply set up the search as you want it to proceed, including any folder selections on which you want it to operate, then click the Save button. Pegasus Mail will prompt you for a filename and location, defaulting to a directory called Searches in your home mailbox directory.

When you click the Load button, Pegasus Mail will prompt you to select a search you have previously saved from this dialog. Any settings you have defined in the dialog will be replaced with the values stored in the saved search."

Thanks for your answers: problem one is solved!

Problem two is partially solved: results of new searches will be deleted automatically. But the list of, I just counted them,: over 1000 older search results still exists. How can I delete these results?

Have a look through http://www.vandenbogaerde.net/han_lkfr.htm
and files and extensions section and reference to *.pnv files. Check and see if those contain what you are trying to get rid of - use plain text editor to view the file. If that file contains what you want to get rid of try rename of it to *.pnv.bak and restart winpmail again.

Are you sure there is not any right click function to delete those searches? I don't have any on this machine to double check that and I have no current *.pnv files.

I assume you are talking about deleting the link folders created inside the "Recent search results" folder.  If so, there are two ways to delete them.  The first is to select one then click the Delete button in the Folder window toolbar, repeat for the next folder, repeat...

If that is too tedious and you are comfortable working in Windows Explorer or some other file manager then here's an easier way.  First, shut down Pegasus Mail.  Use you file manager app to navigate to your home mailbox folder (if you don't know where it is check Pegasus Mail|Help|About Pegasus Mail|Info).  The search results link folders are represented by files in the format lnk*.pnl.  Deleting these will remove their associated entry from the "Recent search results" folder.  You might want to just move them out of your mailbox folder first then test Pegasus to be sure all is ok before deleting permanently.  My testing showed no ill effects when deleting these files with a file manager.  Be sure Pegasus Mail is shut down before doing this!
