Hi Everyone

I'm having a strange problem which is very annoying.
The problem is that i can't close pegasus mail if click close (x) button it get's minimised to taskbar
If i right click pegasus mail application in task bar and click "close" it does nothing.
The only way to close pegasus mail is to kill it through "task manager"
is this a bug ? have i messed with some settings badly.
all helping minds are most welcome
Thankyou in advance

Have you, by any chance/somewhere along the way, installed xclose? I have and I've set it to cause Pmail to behave like this. I close Pmail the way Martin described it.

Cheers!

@steffan @ Martin

Yes .. I have tried that File->Exit won't help either.
No idea about xclose. I will look at the computer and will get back then

Thanks

I really can't figure it out. What might causing this strange annoyance.
i just confirmed "xclose" wasn't / isn't installed.
Has any body have the experienced this scenario before.

I thought upgrading to latest version might solve the problem and updated to v4.61
Yet the problem is still there.

I really won't like to uninstall the pegasus mail and clean install it again.
this is a sort of challenge for me.
Hope some of you will guide me to the correct path

Thanks

Sorry but I have to repeat. The only way to close Pegasus Mail is from the menu File/Exit. Other forcing close of Pegasus Maill will likely damage internal workings, and likely complain when you try to restart.   Ignore any references to xclose.

No, this isn't true and would have caused lots of trouble through the years: I never use the menu and I never encountered any issues with doing so - and I'm sure lots of people would have complained throughout the years if such a standard Windows functionality was broken: I'd call this an ineradicable myth ...

Hi Friend idw
it's not a myth.
It's a brutal truth.
i can provide a video clip if you guys want to have a look at the real problem.
Thanks

"kalu", did you actually read my reply? I did not comment on your issue but on Martin's advice which - aside from being based a wrong assumption - didn't help in your case either according to your posts. And, if you wonder about a solution for you, I don't know any: You've got a very unique issue and I'm afraid you're also the only one who can figure out why this happens unless someone else can duplicate it. It might be helpful to create another (additonal) "clean" installation of Pegasus Mail in a different place just for testing whether it shows the same behaviour or not which would at least tell us whether it's a Pegasus Mail issue or a system issue which only affects Pegasus Mail.

No, copying your settings will prevent a clean setup, and you don't need a clean machine either, you can simply install a new instance of Pegasus Mail on the same machine for testing, and you can still use the other one without any problems as long as you don't try running them both at the same time (not saying this wouldn't be possible, but it might cause confusion): This is only for testing the close issue, nothing else, you can easily delete the complete new directory tree afterwards which will not affect the other instance, just make sure you remember the test directory (maybe simply install to C:\PMTest).

I can confirm what said Michael: I've been using PM for many years and I always close it using the x top right button, I *never* had any problem doing this. The only problem I can confirm happens when you shut down Windows without having shut down PM, in that particular case the .lck file created in the current user's mailbox is not removed and a warning is displayed "Mailbox is locked" when you attempt to rerun PM under that user's account, I just have to click on Continue (and check Preview mode in the Folder menu).

wow wow wow.
To my surprise i installed a new instance of pegasus mail at c:\Pmailtest and the newly installed pegasus had no problem closing with (x) close button.
I think there is problem with pegasus mail settings or it's files. The only option now i see is a clean install after removing the problematic pegasus or overwrite with new installation.

i'm proud :) that I'm the only one facing such problem among thousands of users who's using pegasus mail.
Thanks

Kalu

Well, it would be nice to know what's causing this for future reference, because there isn't anything in Pegasus Mail and it's components doing this on purpose and I can't even imagine how this could happen by accident. But here are some more questions: If Pegasus Mail is minimized when trying to close it, can you restore the Window or doesn't it

do

anything at all anymore? If so Pegasus Mail is probably busy with something invisible like on-close filtering. What happens if you close all internal Pegasus Mail windows before attempting to close Pegasus Mail entirely? Does it "freeze" or can you still click the close button and it minimizes? And finally: Did you consider updating Pegasus Mail to version 4.61 (just be aware of updating IERenderer after doing so especially if IE 9 is installed on your system)? Just make sure you've been running your old Pegasus Mail instance (not the test version) immediately before updating so the installer offers the proper target directory for updating if you consider doing so.

I suspect that you have installed the "Hard to quit" extension sometime in the past and that's what is causing the problem with closing using the "X".   I can't remember the exact name of this extension but that is exactly what is was designed to do, keep you from closing Pegasus Mail unless you did this via the Fire | Exit.

Check the *.fff files in the program and mail directories.

It's called xclose and it's what I suggested (third post in this thread). However, kalu says he can't even close Pegasus by means of File -> Exit, so I'm afraid your suspicion and mine are wrong :-)

Cheers!

Hi idw
Yes i can use pegasus without any problem the only problem is it doesn't get closed either by (x) button or by File-Exit.
I

just click (x) it minimizes to task bar .. i maximize it again .. write

email send it receive mails everything works perfect. Only i cannot

close pegasus mail.

No it does not freeze. Yes I tried closing all

internal pegasus mail windows all closes without any problem. but when i

came to the main window and click close it just gets minimized :~
No i don't have IE9 it's IE 6 with windows xp btw i use mozilla firefox 4.

i will also try searching *.fff files in pegasus's folder's as suggested by stefan

Thank you

kalu
