Application "tied up"

Can't see the forest for all those darn trees!

I didn't see that line in the message box; I went straight in to edit the spambust.dat file -- that's where I expected the command and parameter to be.   Good thing I have an appointment to get my eyeglasses prescription updated this week.  I'll blame this on the need for new lenses, rather than straight stupidity!  :-)))

Thanks for your patience in replying to my multiple posts on this subject.

When I try to start Pegasus, after it asks for the login i.d., the program does not fully kick in.  It gets 'stuck' when it says "applying mail filtering rules" and never goes anywhere else.  I need to close out the window, after which microsoft asks me if I want to send them an error report.  From what I can tell, the computer keeps thinking the application is busy or being used by someone else, which it isn't.  This all occurred after I tried to send an attachment with downloads from youtube, which hopefully weren't contaminated, as the files run okay on my system.  I cannot access any of my Pegasus Mail files.  Any thoughts on what to do?  Thanks in advance.

Move all of the *.CNM files out of the new mail directory and try again.  It should now open normally.  You can then put the messages back one at a time until you find the problem message.

It's probably going to be a really large message.  If you are using content control then I'd recommend that you set a limit on the message size so you are not scanning these large files with encoded attachments.

1.    Use  Tools | Spam and content controls | Content control...

2.    Select and edit the control definition

3.    Select the "Message tests" tab.

4.    Enter 8000 in "Check at most this many bytes in each message"

Thank you for your quick and detailed response.  I won't have a chance to mess around with this until later on tonight, and I'll reply again after I do.  Enjoy your weekend.

Thank you once again.  Following your instructions, it was easy to detect an extremely large .cnm file that corresponded to the date the problem began, so eliminating that solved the problem at once.  Whew!

I can't find a section with this comment, nor can I find a related command listed in the help file.  What is the required syntax for #4 above?

Thanks.

Not sure what to tell you.  I've provided a step-by-step process to find the field to be edited.  Here's the help for this section of content control.

Check at most this many bytes in each message  If you enter a value greater than zero here, Pegasus Mail will only scan that many characters in each message when applying your content control rule set. This can reduce the time taken to perform content control, but can also result in less undesirable mail being detected. If you find that Content Control is taking a significant amount of time on your system (for instance, if you receive many large messages), entering a value of around 8000 in here will typically provide a good balance between speed and detection.

Note that when scanning multipart messages, Pegasus Mail adds together the size of each text section it scans to calculate the number of bytes it has scanned - it does not simply blindly read through the file.

I kinow what to look for, but it's not there.

What I need is the exact syntax of this command, so that I can add it.  If you could copy/paste that command as you see it on your system, then I can add it.  Without seeing the syntax, I am flying blind here.

Thanks.

There is no syntax, you just enter the number into the field.  Here's the screen in Content Control.
