Using OpenSSL

I just tryed out Mercury SMTP and like of the SSL feature that it can recive on the same port encrypted and unencrypted trafic. - Not too many servers can do that and stunnel effectivelly kill that possibility -
However the low level encyption - using old outdated DES crackable in 2 minutes by any low IQ cracker - makes it essentially pointless and not acceptable by most companies.
 
I am wondering why the encryption plugin is not based on OpenSSL and that it could be implemented in the future?
