Fatal error when sending email with subject in non english charset

I want to say that I had a problem: My Thai language emails were being received blank.  Changing the default MIME charset on Tools => Options => Advanced settings to UTF-8 solved my problem.  Thank you.

This isn't ususally a fatal error, did you try the Ignore option (IIRC using Abort results in the termination of Pegasus Mail)? Aside from this: What's your default MIME charset on Tools => Options => Advanced settings? Did you try UTF-8? And as another aside: We would like to get a crash dump (debug file) of this error which requires you to install the MiniDump extension. After installing it you should do whatever you do for seeing the above dialog, then click "Retry". If you don't get prompted with a success message telling you what to do next and Pegasus Mail doesn't crash (which should result in a prompt on its restart) you may need to try again after launching Pegasus Mail via the Start menu group entry created by the MiniDump setup called Debug Pegasus Mail. For details please read MiniDump's ReadMe file (also accessible via its Start menu group).

Thank you for responding Michael.

The default Charset is ISO-8859-1

I tried changing it to  UTF-8

I agree that pegasus is not crashing after hitting send, thus fatal was not a good description.... hitting the IGNORE button on the error message, deos put the message in the queue but with a gibberish subject

I did as you suggested and I am attaching the Crash dump report in a zip file

Thanks, "Aircut", I've forwarded your description along with the relevant parts of the dump to David Harris. It looks like the error message is caused by code related to creating a copy to self, so as a short-term workaround you might disable copy to self and send yourself a BCC instead.

BTW: Posting crash dumps on this forum isn't a very good idea since they might contain personal data that you wouldn't want to leak. As far as I can tell it isn't the case with yours, but there might be more knowledgable "hackers" than me, so I recommend editing your post and removing the dump now that it served its purpose. Thanks for helping us fixing this issue!

Pmail 4.61 running on Win7 64 crashes after sending emails with Hebrew subject longer than 40 characters. Just make it shorter.

You get a real crash (i.e. no debug error dialog)? If so I would like to get a crash dump from this: Like described in my first reply this might get created after just installing the MiniDump extension, otherwise you may need to start Pegasus Mail via its Debug Pegasus Mail shortcut. When restarting Pegasus Mail you would get prompted by an auto-saved message for sending the crash report data.

I assume that this is an encoded subject line, how long is it when fully encoded?  Could you provide a sample?

It is not a real crash, but the debug error dialog. Here it is an example of 41 character long subject line:  אאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאאא

By the way, the same problem arrives with the long Russian subject: ффффффффффффффффффффффффффффффффффффффффф

David Harris has now fixed this issue for the upcoming v4.62 release: It turns out that these 41 characters result in an (quoted-printable) encoded UTF-8 subject line exceeding 256 bytes ...
