NEW MAIL FOLDER NOT DISPLAYING ALL NEW MAIL RECEIVED

Hi Michael,

I don't use preveiw mode, all my windows display in the stand-alone format.  All my prior explanations relate to that mode.

I have a problem that do not rise to the status of "issues".  I'm sorry you can't visualize what's happenning.  Of course I'll continue trying to work around this problem and in time I'll resolve it.  It's unusual however that there have been no other similar requests as mine are on record.  The possibility of the software being corrupted is not very likely simply because the same problem existed with the same email correspondence on my prior computer running a different operating system.

Thank you very much for your help trying to resolve this one.  I don't feel quite so bad now knowing an experienced user is scratching his head as well!

best regards - ragsman

Hi All,

I'm scratching my head trying to learn why mail I reciece from several domains is not being DISPLAYED in the New Mail Folder.

The mail notification .wav file tells me new mail is here, but when I view the New Mail folder I do NOT see these emails from certain domains displaying.

In order to see them I first close and re-open the New Mail folder, and they appear.

If that does not work, I close Pegasus and re-open it and they appear.

These domains are listed in the mail filtering rules to be moved to the New Mail folder but continue to not display.

thanks in advance for any tips - ragsman

Don't keep more than 750 emails in your new mail folder (after all it's a new mail folder), Pegasus Mail does not sort them properly otherwise (there's a built-in limit) since it'll simply slow down opening the folder to much, cf. this thread.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your reply regarding this issue.  I was not aware there was a limit but my New Mail folder never has more than perhaps a dozen mesesages in it at any time.

Any other thoughts or possiblities are certainly welcomed!

Maybe the problem is here: I don't really understand what filter rules would be required to put new mail into the new mail folder: Isn't it put there by default? Are you using preview mode?

I have a similar problem. Do not fall over, but I have 3117 emails in Pegasus v4.4. I had just under 3000 and it was working just fine. Slow opening and would be expected. When it down loaded another 168 emails the other day, it will now only show 25 of the last 168. Then a window would pop up stating: "Pegasus Mail for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience. Please tell Microsoft about this problem. Send Error Report." When I click on send report, it sends and then shuts down Pegasus. I can not do anything now.

My question is, how can I fix this problem? Can it be fixed by down loading the newest version?

Thank you in advance.

Rod

I would not know how to write a filter to configure new mail to go into the new mail folder. Perhaps it might be an idea for the OP to describe how this is achieved.

@Rod

It is always better to create your own thread so that replies between posters do not become confused. Your issue is quite different to the OP's.

Nevertheless, sounds like you have a corrupt mail message. Do the following (and you are going to wish you did not have so many messages in your new mail folder):

Backup up your mail store. This is the folder containing all your mail messages - either C:\PMail or other folder you have specified to hold your mail. It will contain .pmm, .pmi, .cnm files plus others.

After you are certain you have a good backup of your mail, delete all the .cnm files from the mail store folder on the drive.

Open Pegasus Mail. Does it crash? If not, then one of the new mail messages has become corrupted. New mail messages have the extension .cnm.

Add ten or so of the most recent mail messages then open Pegasus Mail again. Repeat. When Pegasus Mail crashes one of the .cnm's you added last will be responsible and you narrow it down from there. Once you have identified the culprit, you can open it via a text editor and see who sent it and request the sender re-send the message. Replace the remaining cnm's in the folder.

... Also, one of the staff on my network has over 10,000 mail messages in his new mail folder. Takes several minutes for Pegasus Mail to open...

Don't keep more than 750 emails in your new mail folder or Pegasus Mail stops working properly (it shouldn't crash, though). A crash will most likely be fixed after updating Pegasus Mail, but make sure to also install the latest IERenderer after updating to 4.61, especially if you have IE 9 installed on your system (it does not matter whether you're using a different default browser or not). And yes: This is a different issue which should have been opened up in a new thread (or being solved by searching the forum) ...

Hi Michael,  <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Sorry for the delay to this response.  Of course "new mail" by default goes to the New Mail folder, except addys I define in the filter rules to be moved to the spam folder.  This has been the historic use, long before the current spam detection was included in Pmail.  I also use filtering to re-direct special types of mail to other special folders rather than New Mail.  Customer Orders or communications with key personnel or contractors for example.  There are several domains that automated spam detection defines as spam but in fact is not spam but important email received from customers or contractors.  To prevent the automatic spam detection from placing these domains in the junk folder, I have attempted to White List them without success.  I then decided to use filters and move those messages to the New Mail folder should they be directed to the Junk Mail folder by spamhalter.

That mail no longer goes to Junk Mail, but that mail is NOT being DISPLAYED in the New Mail folder although the Notification .wav file indicates that mail is in fact in the correct New Mail folder.

When that happens is I either have to close New Mail and re-open New Mail or Close Pegasus and re-open Pegasus.

I hope this is helpful. -- ragsman

Hi Michael,  <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Sorry for the delay to this response.  Of course "new mail" by default goes to the New Mail folder.  Historically I defined spam in the filter rules to be moved to the spam folder.  With the advent of Spamhalter most of that changed and filter rules were not necessary to control spam.

I also use filtering to re-direct special types of mail to other special folders rather than New Mail because that mail might need special handling.  Customer Orders or communications with key personnel or contractors for example.

For some reason however, there are several domains that automated spam detection defines as spam but in fact is not spam.  That mail is important email received from customers, key personel or contractors.  To prevent the automatic spam detection from placing these domains in the junk folder, I attempted to White List them without success.  I then decided to use filters and move those messages to the New Mail folder should they be directed to the Junk Mail folder by spamhalter.

The reason I use filtering rules to do so is because I have many options available from which to select criteria for filtering in addition to being able to Move to any folder i want.

That mail previously detected as spam no longer goes to Junk Mail.  That element is taken care of.

However, the current problem is that mail is NOT being DISPLAYED in the New Mail folder.  I know that new mail HAS ARRIVED in the New Mail folder because notification .wav file sounds and indicates that mail is there.  However I am NOT able to see that mail in the New Mail folder.

When that happens is I either have to close New Mail and re-open New Mail or Close Pegasus and re-open Pegasus.

I hope this is helpful. -- ragsman

What about resorting the new mail folder by clicking the Date/Time header once or twice to get the most recent messages on top (depending on your default setting)?

Hi Again,

Performing those actions does not affect the problem.  Furthermore, the problem exists when the New Mail folder does NOT contain any other mail.

I have absolutely no idea what your issue is, but I would still like a remaining question to be answered: Are we talking about preview mode, and if so, about the list of messages in its folder section (top right pane) or the actual preview of message contents (lower right pane)? And furthermore, if they are not listed in preview mode do the appear when opening the new mail folder in its stand-alone window by double-clicking it in the mailbox tree (left pane)?
