IMAP is designed for leaving emails on the server, not for downloading them (technically it downloads the data nevertheless but doesn't store them on your machine unless you enable message caching - which is only supplied for enhancing performance on slow connections, though). How to download copies of messages without deleting them on the server is described up this thread. These are the options Pegasus Mail offers, don't they match your needs?

Sorry to say, but this is the only way you can get it with Pegasus Mail. The only other option would be to open such messages in your system's browser via the message reader's context menu.

How can I configure Pegasus so that when I download my email it leaves a copy on the email server?

Try Tools > Internet Options > Receiving > Edit and uncheck "Delete mail on server once it has been successfully received"

Also check "Download only unread mail" under the download controls.

The usual practice when retrieving mail from a POP3 host is to delete it from the host when it is successfully downloaded. If you do not delete it, you would normally expect to see it again the next time you download mail from the host. Pegasus Mail incorporates a powerful and complicated facility which allows you to leave mail on the POP3 host without deleting it, but only download mail you haven't already seen. Because the POP3 protocol does not actually provide this facility, there are some limitations on this command, the most specific being that if you run Pegasus Mail on more than one machine, each one willhave a separate list of what you have already seen; so, if you download mail using one machine then access your account later from a different machine, you will probably get the mail you downloaded the first time again, where downloading the mail on the same machine you originally used would only show mail which had arrived since the last time you accessed your account. Check this control to instruct Pegasus Mail to attempt to download only mail you have not read. The effect of this control is probably meaningless if you do not also uncheck the "Delete retrieved mail on host" control. Using this feature can significantly increase the time it takes for Pegasus Mail to retrieve your new mail.

Where is that option? It doesn't exist on my latest version. I cannot find any way to tell Pegasus to leave the mail on the server. The manual refers to "Delete mail on server once it has been successfully retrieved If you check this box ..." but that box doesn't exist either.

I downloaded Pegasus thinking it would be a good way to get mail off that stupid Earthlink mail program and store it elsewhere but it look like Pegasus is no better and now I have lost the inbox and have a bunch of emails in Pegasus that I can't seem to be able to put on a disk either.

Tools > Internet Options > Receiving then select the POP3 host you wish to configure, click Edit, then down near the bottom of the General tab you will see the "Delete mail on server..." checkbox.

Pegasus doesn't lose its new mail folder (inbox?). Tell us more about what you are seeing.

As for putting emails on a disk, Pegasus Mail stores new mail messages as .cnm files. These files can be copied wherever you like. They reside in the mailbox directory which is located at c:\pmail\mail\admin in a default installation.

Hi,

There are three tabs in the Internet Options -> Recieving Pop3 ->Settings for retrieving Mail tool.

On the general tab untick Delete Mail on server once it has been successfully retrieved, In the Download controls tab tick the box labelled Download only unread mail.

This is on Pegasus release 4.63

Let me know if you need a screen dump to follow this.

I've unticked Delete Mail on server and ticked Download only unread mail. All of a sudden once I click on a message it takes forever to load (timed one for one minute 38 seconds on a fast internet connection.) Also I get a popup window about pressing escape to cease the download of graphics, etc. Is there a way to force Pmail to go ahead and download the entire message before I try and open it?

I'm coming from Thunderbird which allows one to get the entire message, leave it on the server, read it without delay and not have to worry about receiving the same message several times. It can be done. Is it possible in Pmail?

Disable automatic image download on Tools => Options => Message reader => Display remote linked graphics for faster message display if using POP3 connections. But you're most probably looking for IMAP to read messages on the server: Check the Tools menu for configuring IMAP access if your provider supports it.

I use Yahoo mail as POP3 and Gmail as IMAP (just discovered IMAP does NOT receive email when I click to get mail. Apparently that only gets POP3.) What is the procedure for getting IMAP mail? Any further suggestions for Pmail is still much, much slower downloading images the Tbird?
