New problems with "Forwarding with editing"

[quote user="peggy"]

I have big problems (V4.62 / Win XP) when I forward a message with the option: "Forwarding with editing". Lots of messages have problems. In many cases parts of the text are out of the visible area and / or the message formated, that you can not read it any more. The original messages are always shown well without any problems (with IERender and bearHTML)

I've done some limited experimenting with similar HTML messages and it appears that the message remains intact after forwarding with editing even though PMail's editor displays it badly. After adding some text comments at the beginning, I forwarded the messages to myself. After making the POP3 and SMTP round trip, the messages were quite legible in PMail's reader ( both BearHtml and IERenderer). We may be able to successfully forward with editing even though the messgage looks quite 'gruesome' in the editor. Forwarding with the original message as an attachment may be another option.

Hopefully, the development folks will be able to find a better resolution but it may take some time.

I must agree with peggy. I have worked with a limited number of HTML messages since 4.62 was released, but so far it appears that the latest version doesn't handle forwards and replies any better than did 4.6.1 and in some cases not as well. This is quite surprising (and disappointing) since the release notes for 4.6.2 extolled its ability to better deal with HTML messages.

It does with regard to crashes and error messages, definitely, I tested several such known issues before release.

I quite agree, Michael, and I believe that is due in large part to your exemplary efforts with IERenderer. However, my comment was in reference to this statement in the list of improvements and updates for the 4.6.2 version:

Updated editor  V4.62 also uses a heavily-updated version of the

editor module we use, and has numerous changes in the way editing

buffers are constructed, meaning it should now be able to edit and reply

to much more complex HTML message formats than previous versions, and

editing should be much more reliable.

I don't intend to 'throw stones' at you, David or any of the folks involved in developing and testing PMail. It's just that what I've experienced with a few HTML messages seems inconsistent with the above statement. Also, I'm curious if there have been similar reports from any others besides 'peggy' and myself or if our experience is somewhat unique.

I was actually referring to TER/HTS here which are used for all editing, not to the HTML rendering for reading: As far as I remember there always have been problems with tables in TER/HTS which appears to not have changed according to the reports in this thread. I don't know whether it's worse now than before, though, since the beta-testers don't appear to extensively use forwarding HTML contents. Nevertheless there are significant fixes which most people won't probably notice since the respective issues only occurr sporadically but with rather severe consequences (crashes or no quoted HTML at all, wrong background colors or multiple error messages on table or image processing etc.).

I agree, editing an new HTML message is in V4.62 much better. The problem is when you use "Forwarding with editing" an received message. Only this is in much cases worse now.

>>Faster POP3 downloads POP3 downloads should be significantly faster when you have chosen to leave mail on the POP3 server<<

Yes, it is very faster.
