Pegasus Mail Internet Setup dialog every time I open Pegasus

Good. Time overlap as your message/post came in while I was preparing and post. The missing username it wanted was probably ADMIN.

I have been using Pegasus Mail (standalone) daily for over fifteen years. I just upgraded my PC from Windows XP to Windows 7 and now I am having a problem.

Every time I open Pegasus I get the dialog for "Pegasus Mail Internet Setup." I enter my email address and skip the next few dialogs so I can get to the Tools/Internet Options... screen. There, when I go to the Receiving (POP3) tab and click Add all my Available POP3 Definitions show up. I Select one and make sure it is Enabled. I close out of that and everything seems to work. Except the next time I open Pegasus, I have to go through all that again. It doesn't seem to remember my internet mail setup.

Also, I installed the newest v4.62, but there was no change.

Any suggestions?

Do Help, About, info button and select and copy that information and post it here. It sounds like you have winpm-32 installed somewhere other than the default location of c:\pmail and that you do not have write permissions for the pmail.ini and other setup files to write and save their data. Win7 does no allow install to program files location like XP would allow. The 4.62 installer must be run and the default c:\pmail location used. Winpm-32 will then be placed into c:\pmail\programs location. by default.

You really only need \mail and below from the old install copied to the new and *not* the pmail.ini file. It is better to reset and save the Tools, Options settings and the Tools, Internet options settings too.

Many have solved problems by doing a new full complete install with all options checked and configuring and getting working and then importing only their messags and address books and stuff needed but nothing else from the old install. Rules and almost all items contain path information and that is by necessity going to be different in most cases on win7 system.

You might need to find out what files are and where they go:

Okay, I did a "full complete install" but now when I start winpm-32.exe, it wants a username and won't accept any name I enter.

Nevermind. I think it's all working now.

After reinstalling, I moved my /MAIL folder back under C:/PMAIL and deleted the old PMAIL.INI files and now things look good.

 Thanks for your help.

That clip looks quite normal to me and quite similar to what I am using now except for missing -roam and -a I also have on my command line plus an -ID entry too. You do show a larger than average number of new mail messages not yet moved to folders but that won't case any problem until larger number.

Do a searh with Winexplorer or other file manager tool or command prompt for pmail.ini and see if you have more than one found. The main one were are concerned with would be in c:\pmail\mail\admin  location. It should be writeable and should get updated after any change of setting(s) and closure of program. If not, then that is where the  problem is and is a Windows system problem. At any point did you run PCONFIG or copy and old pmail.cfg file from the old machine to the new one? At any point did you copy any pmail.ini file?

The Tools, Internet options settings are saved both in pmail.ini and in the *.pnd files that are created during editing and save and those .pnd are found in your home mail box location too.
