Newbie Setup Help

Hi guys, ive setup myself the mercury/32 on a windows Server 2008 environment and im having some issues getting it to receive meail and think ive hit a snag with my MX records, although im not exactly sure.

I have a domain name , www.protransport.com, to test with an the hosting company 123reg point this to my IP. i set this ip and created a new dns called Mail with a type A painting to my Ip address. the server istself sits in my DMZ so has full access the the net, and if you ping mail.protransport.co.uk you will get a response from my IP.

now when i send an email to info(at)protransport.co.uk i get a mail failed, server error 550.

I have an MX record setup to point to smtp & mail & pop@protransport.co.uk, and i still have the standard 123 reg records on there to.

Would someone please be able to tell me where i am going wrong?

MercuryS is set to announce as www.protransport.co.uk with IP interface set to my IP

MercuryE is set to announce as www.protransport.co.uk with IP interface ser to my IP

MercuryP is set to use my IP to listen

all other settings are as default, and the only account created on the server is info(at)protransport.co.uk

test emails sent from the server to my gmail address work fine

can also telnet to mail.protransport.co.uk on port 25 so should not be blocked

Thans so much for any help guys

I have an MX record setup to point to smtp & mail & pop@protransport.co.uk

This is what I get when querying MX records for the domain:
 Name=protransport.co.uk
    Type=MX, Class=1, TTL=86400 (1 Day), RDLENGTH=16
    Preference=10, Mail Exchange=mx0.123-reg.co.uk
- Name=protransport.co.uk
    Type=MX, Class=1, TTL=86400 (1 Day), RDLENGTH=16
    Preference=3, Mail Exchange=82.39.98.55.protransport.co.uk
- Name=protransport.co.uk
    Type=MX, Class=1, TTL=86400 (1 Day), RDLENGTH=8
    Preference=20, Mail Exchange=mx1.123-reg.co.uk

The MX record should point to mail.protransport.co.uk. You should remove the 123-reg.co.uk records unless you actually want those servers to receive mail for you.

MercuryS is set to announce as www.protransport.co.uk with IP interface set to my IP

MercuryE is set to announce as www.protransport.co.uk with IP interface ser to my IP

Don't specify IP interface unless you have a special reason to do so, just leave it blank.

can also telnet to mail.protransport.co.uk on port 25 so should not be blocked
No response on port 25 from here. Make sure port forwarding from your router or firewall is set up properly.

Further the host mail.protransport.co.uk does not answer on port 25.  There may be port blocking by either your firewall or your ISP involved here though.

Thanks Thomas

I have added the servers like you said and still nothing, although i cannot telnet to the server on port 25. its forwarded on my router but it seems that there is a problem with the ISP. this is going to be problematic as it is for my dads business startup.

I have been looking into email relays such as GMX and  zoneedit but i feel i really dont understand what i am doing.

Seems i may have bitten off more than i can chew [:(]
