I beat around the bush for a couple of hours and finally discovered that for the MercuryC SMTP Relay Client, I could not
login with my gmail password because it contained a '#' character. That character and all after it were not saved in the config.
In the end I went and changed my password at Google. Vuela! no more 'Username and Password not accepted' errors!
This post to see if others had/have similar problems. This seems to be some kind of bug. No '#' character in a password?!
I can't be alone with '#' in a password. I just tried !,&,* and they all work. But still not '#'. Save the config, restart Merc and
you lose all p/w characters starting at '#'.
