Using Pegasus as Mercury's mail client configuration HELP!!!! :D

Mercury is going to take at least a few seconds to send. Mail is first put in the queue by the mail client, it takes a few seconds (10 is the default) for Mercury core to see the 101 file in it queue and process it as a MO*.QCF/QDF file pair for processing by either MercuryC or MercuryE. MercuryC/E also takes a few seconds (again 10 seconds) to see the queued mail and sent it. This is all by design.

Can someone pls teach me what to place in Pegasus' Internet Options when I will use Mercury Mail as its server...

I used my IP as the address in Mercury which is 27.110.196.110 so a sample account is: rf@27.110.196.110. It has a username and password which is rf and 1234 respectively.

Help pls.... thank you and hoping for your immediate responses!!!

I know that this should probably be posted in the Pegasus side of the forum... which I did...but they can't explin the Mercury server side of things... pls help and thank you!!!!

The IP address needs to be put in the domains with brackets [27.110.196.110] and the e-mail address will be user@[27.110.196.110].

Use 27.110.196.110 as the host for both the SMTP and POP3/IMAP4 connections If you are not using secure connections (and you should not until you get the basic setup working) you just use the standard ports.

Port 465 is the SSL/TLS secure port and you do not wan to use them when starting up. Set MercuryS to accept mail on ports 25 and 587. Then you can use either of these to make a connection. You must reboot Mercury after any port change.

In addition, if trying to connect from an internal LAN I would expect to see and IP address like 192.168.1.5 or similar when connecting from one of the other systems in the internal LAN.

Yes, absolutely. If it is taking the normal SMTP ports then then will happen. In addition, Norton is an especially bad piece of software.

Look at the MercuryS and MercuryP screens to see what has connected. The associated logs also will help a lot.

That's good enough for a POP3 and SMTP mail client. Of course is this is Pegasus Mail and Mercury working on the LAN you would not need to use either since mercury can deliver mail directly to the mail account and when sending Pegasus Mail would put the mail directly into the Mercury queue.

Uhm, sir as I said I can email to the users I created in Mercury using File> Send Mail Message ... in Mercury Mail..... also I can receive the emails that I sent using Pegasus which means POP3(receiving) is working in both Mercury and Pegasus.

But when I try to send an email using Pegasus nothing happens (which means remains on the same page/ email page and no email sent). No "connecting to" message in the bottom left part of the Pegasus interface either.

Is this clear enough? Sorry and Thanks!!!

Ok, Pegasus Mail send mail via Mercury in two ways,

1. Sends mail via the built in mailer to MercuryS using the Mercury/32 host name or IP address. This host name or IP address point to the system on the LAN, generally this is a non-routable IP address when the IP address is used. You can use Start | Run telnet <IP address> 25 to verify Mercury is receiving on this port. If port 25 is being blocked then set MercuryS to receive on port 587 and then telnet using this port after you re-boot Mercury. If you can connect via telnet then use that data for Pegasus Mail.

2. Sends mail via a User Defined Gateway (UDG) You use Configuration | Pegasus Mail ... In Mercury/32 to create the UDG. You can also manage this using pconfig.exe in the Pegasus Mail program directory and select the Mercury UDG. It will normally look like this.

              Gateway name : [INTERNET ]
            *New mail path :
    Is a program to run? : N
     *New mail search mask :
       *Outgoing mail path : C:\MERCURY\QUEUE
    *Run for outgoing mail :
          *Filename format : ~d~d.PMX
   Run to validate address :
     *Reply address format : "~p" <~L~L~8@host.domain>
   Accepts SMTP addresses? : Y
Simple message headers? : 'Glue' headers
     UUEncode attachments? : Y
           Burst messages? : N Gateway processes BCC? : N
       Strip gateway name? : Y
Force all mail through? : N

The ~p is the personal name, ~8 the account name. You can also use ~p<~r> and the Reply to: address will be used.

> But when I try to send an email using Pegasus nothing happens (which
> means remains on the same page/ email page and no email sent).

If it cannot even send the mail to the queue then this means that Pegasus Mail cannot write the file to the queue. If Pegasus Mail cannot connect then this means the address used for the server is bad or the the port is blocked.

> No "connecting to" message in the bottom left part of the Pegasus
> interface either. Is this clear enough? Sorry and Thanks!!!

Actually this is still not clear. How are you trying to send the mail?

> Uhm, sir as I said I can email to the users I created in Mercury using > File> Send Mail Message ... in Mercury Mail..... also I can receive > the emails that I sent using Pegasus which means POP3(receiving) is > working in both Mercury and Pegasus.

If it cannot even send the mail to the queue then this means that Pegasus Mail cannot write the file to the queue. If Pegasus Mail cannot connect then this means the address used for the server is bad or the the port is blocked.

Actually this is still not clear. How are you trying to send the mail?
