I had the same trouble as you are explaining after installing an updated version of Acrobate.

Open Pegasus and click on the tools menu. Click options and go to the content viewer.If Acrord32.exe is listed DELETE IT. Than click the add button and add ( .PDF ) and click apply. Highlite .PDF and click edit. In the define attachment viewer take this action select Let Windows choose and run an appropriate application. Click OK, APPLY and than OK again. This worked for me and brought pegasus mail back the way it was before. I can click the open button on the .PDF file and windows opens it or I can click the .PDF file and it opens. This should correct your problem.

When I receive a PDF file as an attachment, the Open button does nothing.

I have tried adding a .PDF entry to  Tools>Options>Content Viewer and tried "Let Windows choose an application". Then tried Run this program and pointed it at the AcroRd32.exe file. But in both cases it has no effect - the Open button still does nothing.

 I have to save the Attachment and then open it outside of Pegasus which is a bit of a nuisance.

Anyone now what is wrong? The version is 4.62

Can you post the header section of the respective attachment (copy from the raw message view), it should look like this one:

Though I had never tried to open attachment from withim PM, I am encountering the same issue as stated above, pdf won't open.

What does the Windows Explorer context menu

for PDF files

show? Is there a default entry (a bold one)? Which one (see below for mine (German))?

When I right click on a PDF file in Windows Explorer, the top bold menu item is "Open with Adobe Reader X". When I choose this the file opens OK in the adobe reader - if I check the pathname of the executable in Task Manager it is "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 10.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe". This is the same pathname that I have tried adding into Pegasus' Content Viewer list, but (as mentioned earlier) it does not do anything in Pegasus when I click the Open button when the attachment is highlighted.

Is attachment preview turned off or on in Tools, Options, Incoming, Message reader section? Item should be unchecked to enable preview of attachments and both Open button or double click on the attachment should open in the defined application.

On closed Pegasus add, if it isn't there following line to MIME-MAP.PM:

application/pdf = Acrobat

In FILETYPE.PM do the same for extension ".pdf", if it isn't defined:

Acrobat,0,X,0,.PDF

Both must be named identical ("Acrobat"). For me that works.

Those 2 entries were not present in their respective .pm files.

After creating these entries, the File Type in Attachment View is correctly displayed as Acrobat (which was previously displayed as "Unknown File Type".)

OK ... but that's cosmetic ... and applies only to Pegasus. Are you able to open PDFs from within Pegasus?

If not ... there's something wrong with the installation of your PDF-viewer (Acrobat most times).

I'm the original poster. I also have "Turn attachment preview off..." unchecked in Message Reader

I found a MIME-MAP.PM and FILETYPE.PM in both the root PMAIL folder and in the RESOURCES subfolder. They seemed to be identical in both folders so I changed both as you instructed. The "Type" name in the Attachments view seems to have changed - before I made the change it was 2 or 3 words (sorry can't remember but something like Adobe Acrobat....). After I made the change it became just 1 word "Acrobat" - so the change has had some effect.

But the PDF attachment still will not open in Pegasus Attachments View. I again tried "Let Windows try..." and the full pathname to the adobe executable in Content Viewers - but both still do not do anything when I click Open in Attachments View.

The Adobe PDF Viewer seems to be installed and working fine. I can double-click a PDF file in Windows Explorer and it will always open in the PDF viewer. It's just Pegasus that seems to be failing.

The changes I mentioned are because Pegasus doesn't know the MIME-Type application/pdf out of the box. I think there was something like "unknown file type" before. This entries in combination should tell Pegasus how to handle that.

I'm using Adobe Acrobat 9 and I never had an entry at the attachment viewers in Pegasus for PDF-Documents. Pegasus allways asked windows for the correct application. Maybe things changed with Acrobat 10? I can't test it.

Which version of Acrobat Reader are you using? Mine is 10.1.1 which is working fine with PMail after the tweaks.

Upgrade to the latest version and try to open pdf file.
