1. While in the default Identity go to Tools | Internet Options | Receiving.

You will see a check box that enables all Identities to be checked when polling for new mail.

Currently this is probably checked.  You can uncheck it and only the enabled servers in the default identity will be polled.

2. Go to Tools | Identities and delete any Identities you no longer require.

3. If the problem persists become each Identity in turn and while in each, go to Tools | Internet Options | Receiving, to locate the old definition. If you need that Identity replace the definition with something current so it continues to function.

I have changed providers and therefore my email address, However despite deletions pegasus mail keeps checking the old email address. It gives a pop3 address error i.e. can not log on. This is annoying and time wasting. How do i delete thi profile that keeps being checked when set to default.

To completely remove, click Add and delete that particular definition.

Thank you very much for the response. Yes this works in some  cases but unfortunately in this particular case I get a message stating that the identity can not be deleted because it si being used by another profile.

In which case you need to look at your Identities and determine which is using this pop3 setting.

You can also look at the pop definitions in your mail folder (Files with the file name starting with POP and having the PND file extension, viewable with Notepad) and delete it there.

However it is probably a better idea to clean up your Identities to save further problems arising.
