Synchronisation between PC and USB stick

Brian

Thats one of the joy's of using Pegasus Mail; you struggle with a problem, put out a request for help, and in two shakes of a ducks tail somebody you've never met produces a solution which works just fine.

Many thanks for the quick response.

Please it is possible to use PMail on the way?

Situation:
Installation on PC used everyday.
Installation on stick used only if the installation on PC cannot be used - on trips, away from office on so on ....
After returning to office/home it is a great need to synchronise emails on stick with emails on PC, but e.g. on stick should be only emails from past two weeks and only these should be copied to PC.

Again I wish to go away - I synchronise my PMail emails on PC with USB stick and go away. On the trip I check my emails with PMail on the stick and after returning to office ... and again the same procedure as before described.

It is possible?

Thanks in advance.

I am not aware of a simple method to do what you are asking.  Others here might have suggestions.

My immediate thought is that you can either copy the mailbox between the two as required, or obtain a decent pocket drive and commit Pmail to that. (With periodic backup to your main machine.)

Yes, but thats not a very usefull solution.

In that way you need a second utility beside PMail (and you must copy in not a very polite view. Mostly all postings - maybe 100 thousands emails and not only e.g. emails from the last two weeks or only with choosen subject/choosen folders).

I have used PMail from very beginning, but I was forced long ago to switch to another client and now I wish to switch back, but I use a client with this possibility:

Sync with Portable Media (first time you must specify the Sync Name, then Select Media To Go and then as seen on the picture in attachment)

You could install Pmail on the USB stick using the -ROAM option. You can read more about that on this forum. As for synchronising your mail, you can use the Add mail folder to list option. In doing so, make sure you point Pmail (installed on your PC) to the mail folder on your stick and then copy/move the mail to the folders of your choice. Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Thanks for answering.
I know how to copy files - I think that know most of PC users. But it is possible to synchronise emails like I have shown in previous picture?
I know how to synchronise files/directories too, but I wish to use PMail again (and only PMail and not a bunch of others tools with PMail).
I have searched this forum before too, but I thought that with this new version maybe something changed.
I think that PMail is great, but now I need this feature.

P.S.: -roam flag is a flag from installation procedure and there is an explanation of that too. I will wait for this feature - but I am wondering, because you can see a need of that in questions 5 years ago at least.

The suggestion made by the previous poster is probably as close as you are going to get to synchronization and does not require the use of any additional tools.

I wasn't talking about copying files, but about adding to Pmail on your PC a maibox that physically resides on your USB stick. Once you've done that, you can develop an intricate system of mail filtering rules to move/copy the mail from the folder on your USB stick to the Pmail folders on your PC. I must admit that I totally love this feature.

I wonder if you would elaborate on "adding to Pmail on your PC a maibox that physically resides on your USB stick". How do you add a mailbox in order to sync from Pegasus on usb stick to Pegasus on a harddisc?

I sense that there is a great deal of interest in a simple and well documented way to sync between Pegasus folders on different media.

Many thanks

See Help Index | Folder Manager | Folders Menu for an explanation.

I would love to be able to replicate this feature. But to see my usb stick via Pegasus on my PC, I need a few simple guidelines. Are you able to help, please?

There was a suggestion from Caisson that the explanation would be found in Folder Manager/Folders Menu. If it is there, I'm afraid it must be well camouflaged!

Thanks, in anticipation

Check Help and the following section:

The Folders Menu

The Folders menu is available on the menu bar when the folder manager window is the current window. It contains less-frequently used options for managing your folders.

Add mailbox to list:  This command allows you to add another mailbox to your folder view. You will be prompted to enter a directory or a username which Pegasus Mail should use to locate the mailbox. It will then proceed to add that mailbox as a root entry in the Folder Manager window, and will add any recognizable mail folders from that location into that root entry. Mailboxes added to the Folder Manager in this way are just like your own mailbox - you can read messages, create folders, move messages around (including between mailboxes) and so on.

Examples of uses for this command include:
* Secretaries who need to access the boss's mailbox while he's away on business
* System administrators who need to troubleshoot a user's mailbox
* Accessing folders from another mail program, such as Eudora (Pegasus Mail can read the unix folder format used by Eudora), so you can migrate messages from one to the other.
* Accessing two mailboxes when you use a laptop and can be both attached to a LAN in NetWare mode, and regularly using your laptop in standalone mode on the road.

Got it, many thanks. I think I'll love this facility, too.

Indeed I do love this facility of adding a mailbox to the Folder list. But I do have a question:

Is there a simple way to successfully search (ctrl f) in the added mailbox?

It appears that if you know - and highlight -  the actual folder in the attached mailbox where the message sought resides, the Search facility will find the message, but if you merely highlight the attached mailbox icon itself, the search facility fails immediately. Or so it seems to me.

Is there a way to finesse this?

(At present, the only fail-safe way appears to exit the "combined" folder listing, and open the "added" mailbox directly and thereafter conduct the search in the normal way)

Try this:  In the folder list select any one of the folders in the attached mailbox then CTRL+F and set the "Folders to search" option to "Search the current folder and all folders at the same level".
