Which error messages? May be they have been about a folder needing reindexing or cosistency check?
Your folder didn't disappear - the index was destroyed for some reason (it's a seperate file). Seldomly had this "problem" with older versions of Pegasus but not so far with new version. Most times it occured with broken networkconnections (folders are on a server) or crashing Windows. Perhaps check your hardware ... especially memory and harddisk.
You don't need to go back. But as everytime you have important data on your computer you should have a good backup of that data! Do you?
