Virus/Trojan Issue

Another possibility - if your mailprovider offers wemailinterface too - is a hacked webmailaccess. A friend of mine had that issue about a month ago.

Pegasus is the only email client I use.  I had an issue come up last night.  Someone has gotten a hold of a list of email addresses I've sent messages to in the past.  The addresses aren't in any other programs on my computer.  They aren't in any address books in pegasus.  As far as I can figure out, the only place the addresses are stored is in emails I've saved in various folders in Pegasus.  Some of the addresses are to people I haven't emailed with in almost a year, although I have saved those emails.  A number of people have contacted me, replying to phishy sorts of emails supposedly from me.  The phishy emails don't look like they originated from my computer... the from IP addresses don't match my computer's IP address.

So it looks like a virus or trojan got onto my system, scanned through my saved emails in Pegasus, extracted the email addresses and sent them out to someone, who then used the addresses to send out the phishy emails.

I use Zonealarm AV/firewall.  I'm currently scanning my system.  I'll let you know if I find anything.

There is another possibility.  The hacking could have been from someone else's address book -- someone you sent emails to that also contained the email addresses of other recipients.  Do you ever put more than one address on a To or CC line?  I have seen this happen before.
