It would be a good idea if you explained what you are intending to do with the Mercury server.

As Rolf says, you need to be able to have a domain name which you can control before you can make much use of a mailserver.

Hello there, I'm trying to set up a mail server with Mercury/32. I'm working on my laptop that is connected on my smartphone with WIFI (I'm using the sharing connection function). My computer address is 192.168.43.64

I can send emails on Internet but I can't receive. I'm asking for help because I don't find solution about the POP configuration I have to use. When I send emails, my address is valentin@localhost.bouyguestel.com

Not sure I understand the question... Are you trying to connect to Mercury with POP3 from within your local network, or from the Internet?

That's an internal network address that won't be accessible from the internet.

I would guess that you are sending as valentin@localhost and your ISP is adding "bouyguestel.com" to try to make it a valid email address. However you won't be able to receive replies on that address.

Please paste your Mercury.ini file here so we can help you. What should your email address be?

I know that I gave you my private address and it won't be accessible from the Internet.

My ISP is in effect bouyguestel.com and I'm also sending with valentin@localhost

The fact is that I want to receive replies on this local address, is it possible ? (I believe it is but it's a problem of redirection (public address has to make the redirection on my private address)

My Mercury.ini file is available here http://valentinbape.free.fr/MERCURY.INI (I changed the password with ******** because you would have been able to hack me ;))

I'm afraid there are a number of things that need attention.

[General]

myname: localhost # Canonical name for this server

If you intend to have anything except your own computer connect to the server you should give it a proper hostname. See Mercury help or the PDF manual!

[MercuryS]
HELO : Valentin SMTP

To communicate on the Internet you will need a domain that you own and a proper hostname.

Relay : 0

Strict_Relay : 0

If you open up MercuryS to the Internet, at least switch on strict relay control.

Interface : 127.0.0.1

Not needed, and will prevent you from ever receiving anything from the Internet.

[MercuryP]
Interface : 192.168.43.64

Again not needed, leave that field blank.

[MercuryX]

You probably don't need this module.

[Domains]

80.214.4.61: 80.214.4.6

This is critical - read this section in Mercury help carefully! Lines with just colons have to be removed. Local domains should be something like:

server:   myhostname

server: domain.com

server: host.domain.com

server:  [192.168.43.64]

server:  [80.214.4.6]

Apart from the mercury.ini settings you should get a domain and set the MX record for the domain to an A record pointing to your public IP address (apparently 80.214.4.61). You will then need to forward port 25 from your router/modem/firewall to the LAN address (192.168.43.64) of the machine running Mercury.
