What it the IP address of your fixed IP connection used by the router. You domain name needs to be set in the DNS with an A record pointing to this IP address and an MX record pointing to this host name. I have previously provided this info. FWIW, why in the world are you munging your IP address, it

Hello Thomas

I know you have already provided me this info with regards to DNs and the A record, I have already set that up from your last post, I was just letting you knew with in my last post what I had done. [:)]

I hope i have not offended you by munging my IP address, As i'm new to this I was unsure if it was safe to show my full fixed IP address [:$]

Following steps to resolve issue with WHS not working with Mercury/32

Ok following your help I have completly set it up and still does not work but don't worry found out why, I set my laptop up and installed Mercury/32 on that and then forward all the correct ports to the laptop and all worked fine [:S]

So changed ports of back to WHS2011 and checks all settings in Mercury/32 all fine - then thought Ehhh lets check the firewall !!!! I turned off Microsofts WHS2011 firewall and Boom Mercury/32 works fine send and recive email works LOL.

So know I just need to find out how to change the firewall to allow <ercury to run correctly....

I will be back to ask some quest's soon as I would like to do some other stuff around this but need to sort out the firewall now.

Big thak you again

Greetings

Im wondering if I can install Mercury on Windows Home Server 2011 and run this as my mail server from there?

Thanks

Should work as long as no other process on the server is using the email ports, and email ports aren't being blocked in the firewall. You should preferably have a fixed IP address to communicate with the Internet, though, and check that your Internet provider allows traffic on port 25.

Other than that the best way to find out if it works is probably to try it! ;)

Ok right need some help here

I have a 1&1 account that i have a domain name with (chaplinsbargains.co.uk) now as a test I would like to use this domain name with my email server. how do I go about this?

the settings for the domain name on 1&1 are:

Domain name :chaplinsbargains.co.uk
IP Address (A-Record) :82.165.81.90
Name server 1:ns59.1and1.co.uk
Name server 2:ns60.1and1.co.uk
Mail server 1:mx01.1and1.co.uk, 10
Mail server 2:mx00.1and1.co.uk, 10

Name Server Settings as follows:

Name server:1&1 name server
IP Address (A-Record):1&1 IP address
Mail Server (MX Record):1&1 mail server

What do i need to change to point my Domian name to my email server ?

I belive I need to change my MX record but I'm not to sure.

The Idea is that all email to that domain name come directly to my email server.

Yep, that's pretty much it. Note though that the MX record should point to an A record, not directly to a numerical IP address, so you should add a new A record, for instance mail (mail.chaplinsbargains.co.uk) at the same time.

It appears that you have 2 MX hosts for this domain. They should forward the mail to your IP address via SMTP.

Answer Section:
    chaplinsbargains.co.uk, A, 82.165.81.90
    chaplinsbargains.co.uk, MX, 10, mx01.1and1.co.uk
    chaplinsbargains.co.uk, MX, 10, mx00.1and1.co.uk

Personally I would change the DNS settings so the mail goes to your server first as follows. Also I really do not like having 2 MX hosts at the same level. ;-)

Answer Section:
    chaplinsbargains.co.uk, A, 82.165.81.90
    chaplinsbargains.co.uk, MX, 5, chaplinsbargins.co.uk
    chaplinsbargains.co.uk, MX, 10, mx01.1and1.co.uk
    chaplinsbargains.co.uk, MX, 20, mx00.1and1.co.uk

Absolutely, this should be the IP address of your fixed IP address connection to the internet. Normally this is a router where you would use NAT to translate port 25 of this connection to port 25 of the computer running Mercury.

Ok still
need some help [:(] as you can tell I'm totally new to all this LOL, right here
is what I have done so far:-

Domain name :<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

chaplinsbargains.co.uk

IP Address (A-Record) :

92.***.62.*** <<Concealing IP address as this is a

forum

Name server 1:

ns59.1and1.co.uk

Name server 2:

ns60.1and1.co.uk

Mail server 1:

mx00.1and1.co.uk,

15

Mail server 2:

chaplinsbargains.co.uk,

5

Mail server 3:

mx01.1and1.co.uk,

15

On my router I have set port forwarding of the below ports
to my local server IP address: -

My Server local IP address is 192.168.1.2.

Ports opened are:

SMTP Port 25 forwarded to 192.168.1.2

POP3 Port 110 forwarded to 192.168.1.2

IMAP Port 143 forwarded to 192.168.1.2

BY UPnP Port 80 is opened and is forwarded to 192.168.1.2

Now the question is how do I setup Mercury?

I've followed a step by step set up from http://www.netdummy.net/installation.html

What I want is for friends to be able to send email to my
domain name (Chaplinsbargains.co.uk) and for me to able to respond where ever I
am home / work or when out and about)

Currently ive installed the following protocol modules

1. MercuryS (SMTP Server)

2. MercuryP (POP3 server)

3. MercuryE (SMTP end-to-end delivery client)

4. MercuryW (PopPass password change server)

5. MercuryI IMAP4rev 1 server)

6. MercuryB (HTTP web server)

Not sure if I need all of these protocols but that what I choose
following the guide !

In the Mercury core module configuration section

Where it has (internet name for this system) should this be
(chaplinsbargains.co.uk) ? as this is what I have put...

In the local domains here is what's listed:

Locale host or server internet name
92 92

92 92.***.62.***

92 chaplinsbargains.co.uk

Not sure how ^^ that lot got there but it's there anyway
LOL.

So if the all above was set up right (which I don't think it
is) if I was to setup outlook to pull email from this server what would be my
server information for me to collect e mail from this server

Would it be the following ?

Account Type (POP3)

Incoming mail server:
pop.chaplinsbargains.co.uk

Outgoing mail server (SMTP):
smtp.chaplinsbargains.co.uk

Also how do make a complete email address as I can't see any
option to creat a user email address from the domain name I.E

Domain Name is (Chaplinsbargains.co.uk) how do I turn this
into dave@Chaplinsbargains.co.uk

Looking forward to you replies

Big Thanks to all that has help me so far on this epic journey [:D]

What it the IP address of your fixed IP connection used by the router. You domain name needs to be set in the DNS with an A record pointing to this IP address and an MX record pointing to this host name. I have previously provided this info. FWIW, why in the world are you munging your IP address, it certainly will not be a security problem.

OK

By installing Mercury to c:\mercury. If the DNS is correct and you domain is pointing to your fixed IP address then the mail will be delivered automatically to the MercuryS server.

Ok.

> 2. MercuryP (POP3 server)
> 3. MercuryE (SMTP end-to-end delivery client)
> 4. MercuryW (PopPass password change server)
> 5. MercuryI IMAP4rev 1 server)

You may or may not need to last 3.

Correct.

I'd use

chaplinsbargains chaplinsbargains
chaplinsbargains chaplinsbargains.co.uk
chaplinsbargains [IP address of your fixed IP connection]

See changes

> Account Type (POP3)
> Incoming mail server:
> chaplinsbargains.co.uk
> Outgoing mail server (SMTP):
> chaplinsbargains.co.uk

> Looking forward to you replies

User Dave must be created using Configuration | Manage local users so that mail for dave@chaplinsbargains.co.uk is received by MercuryS and then Mercury core delivers the mail to this local user.

The username and password entered in this setup will be used by the POP3 when being access via a POP3 mail client.

See changes &gt; Account Type (POP3) &gt; Incoming mail server: &gt; <i><b>chaplinsbargains.co.uk</b></i> &gt; Outgoing mail server (SMTP): &gt; <i><b>chaplinsbargains.co.uk</b></i> &gt; Also how do make a complete email address as I can't see any &gt; option to creat a user email address from the domain name I.E &gt; Domain Name is (Chaplinsbargains.co.uk) how do I turn this &gt; into dave@Chaplinsbargains.co.uk &gt; Looking forward to you replies User Dave must be created using Configuration | Manage local users so that mail for dave@chaplinsbargains.co.uk is received by MercuryS and then Mercury core delivers the mail to this local user. The username and password entered in this setup will be used by the POP3 when being access via a POP3 mail client. &gt; Big Thanks to all that has help me so far on this epic journey </p>
