How to eaisily delete all mail folders + sub-folders?

In your mailbox folder, delete all files that are *.pmm and *.pmi The folders and their content will be gone.
That's what I did the first time I tried. But the folder and sub-folder names remain. And when I tried to delete them I was told that it cannot be done as they're not empty even though they were.

I need to get rid of the messages and the folders and sub-folders that contained them. I don't want to leave any work related emails (or relayed folders) on my netbook for security reasons. I'll take that risk when traveling. But for day-to-day use I prefer to not have it there

Backup before testing the below command liine executed at the mailbox directory.

DEL /Q *.CNM *.PMI *.PMM CACHE.PM FOLSTATE.PM HIERARCH.PM STATE.PMJ

When I travel I will copy my main computer's mail folder to my netbook. But there are times when I want to remove the email folders and retain access to my POP email accounts.

Deleting mail folders is a lot of work as they all contain sub-folders.

One simple way was to change my "MAIL" folder location to one I called "MAIL2" and then delete the contents of "MAIL". But this does not carry over my POP definitions or other custom settings.

Once I create the "MAIL2" folder can I just copy over those files that contain those settings and leave being all the .PMI, .PMM, .CNM behind to be deleted.

If so, what files should I copy over?

Or is there a simple "delete all mail and mail folders" trick that retains the POP settings, address books and any other user customizations?

 Thanks,

Russell

In your mailbox folder, delete all files that are *.pmm and *.pmi The folders and their content will be gone. Don't forget to make a quick backup of these same files before you delete them :-)

Thanks for replying, Martin

If I cannot find a simple solution the I'll just create a new empty mailbox with the same name and swap it for the full one when I return from my travels. I did this already but found that all my POP configurations were also lost and I was too lazy to redo them. I thought there might be an easier solution.

Have you looked into using a memory stick for all your messages and folders?  Then you can pop the memory stick into whichever device you want.

There are numerous articles on this site that deal with this.

It's way too easy to lose a memory stick.
