It took me a couple of hours yesterday of trying,
searching this forum, and swearing, but I finally found a way to make Pegasus
4.63 work as I wanted to. In the previous version you could simply create
different users, each one with its settings and mailboxes, etc, and then easily
switch between them. In the latest version that option (user switching) is not
there anymore, so I had to find out about how to create and link identities to
all my (different) email accounts. So here is what I did: (of course that I've
backed-up all my files within C:/PMAIL before starting this, and I recommend
everyone to do the same !)
1. With Pegasus Mail closed, I have renamed the
folder Admin to another username (eg. WORK)
2. After starting Pegasus with a previous existing username
(eg. Friends), I have created two new users, with Addresses - User management -
New, the first one I named it ADMIN, and the second WORK (the one that used to
be ADMIN in my case, whose folder I renamed in the first step). I will explain
the reason for doing this soon.
3. Exit Pegasus, start again and type WORK. I linked
the new username WORK to the mailbox folder WORK. To do that you need to go to
Tools - Options... - Mailbox location, and under "Directory where mailbox
is located" in the "Path" text box I typed the path to the WORK
folder, in my case C:\PMAIL\MAIL\WORK
4. Exit Pegasus, start again and type ADMIN. (So
basically I've started building up from scratch)
5. Under Tools - Identities I've created another
three identities (for my other three email accounts), beside the already
existing one named <Default>
6. In the toolbar at the top of the screen should be
the box that allows you to quickly swith between existing identities. BUT, if
that box is not there, you can enable it going into Tools - Options - User
interface - Toolbars, and choose POP3 user. Hit OK and the quick switching
identity box should now appear in the toolbar.
7. Switch to <Default>, and under Tools -
Internet options... (or File - Network configuration... ; the same window will
appear anyway !), under General tab I left the "My internet e-mail address
is:" field BLANK, as well as for tabs named Receiving (POP3) and Sending
(SMTP) - BLANK.
8. In the left pane, under “My mailbox” I deleted all
folders, except “New mail” (although I am not using it, the program won’t allow
me to delete it), “Deleted messages” and “Junk or suspicious mail”.Now, the
reason for creating another BLANK user name (ADMIN) is that the folder “My
mailbox” can not be renamed, for example with “WORK” or “FRIENDS” or something
else.
9. Next I’ve added the mailbox
folders for my other three email accounts / user names. Go to Folders – Add
mailbox to list…, check the “Username” option and type the user name of whose
content you want to add to the list on the left (eg. WORK), and type a name for
it, eg. WORK. Click OK and it shoul load on the left pane. Do the same for all
usernames you may want to add to the list.
10. In the left pane right click
on the name WORK for instance and choose “Set default identity for mailbox” and
from the window that appears choose the right identity, in this case WORK. Do
the same for all other mailboxes that you’ve added in the left pane.
11. From the toolbar switch to a
new identity, for example WORK, and under Tools – Internet options… add the
neccesary details, like email address, POP3 and SMTP, etc.
12. Do the same under Tools –
Options…, except for the option "Directory where mailbox is located",
where in the "Path" text box should be C:\PMAIL\MAIL\ADMIN. DO NOT
CHANGE IT, for it will affect all other mailboxes!
13. Still under Tools – Options…,
under Basic settings, for Name for default mail folder, click on Select folder
and point to the right folder where you want the new mail for that particular
username to be directed
14. Repeat steps 11 to 13 for
each identity.
15. I’m not sure if absolutely necessary…
On the left pane, click on the folder where the email will arrive for instance under
WORK (the same will be done for each identity), and in top toolbar click on Filter….
Leave the option “Examine the message’s sender and recepient”, click Next,
select the appropriate email address for that particular folder (ex. work@sample.com), click Next, select “Move the
message into a folder”, click on Select…, and point to the right folder where
you want the new mail for that particular username to be directed. I’m not sure
whether this is working as intended thanks to step 13 or 15, but it works!
Now in my case the new emails
are directed into the right mail folders, according to the email address the
were sent to. When I select the message and hit reply, this will be sent from
the correct email account (ex. WORK if under WORK, FRIENDS if under FRIENDS).
The only thing is not working anymore is the sound and notofication / telltale
window when new mail arrives.
Later edit (forgot to mention): I am not saying that this is the best workaround of solving this, or that this is the intended use of identities. I just found a way of making the program work the way I was thinking it should be working.
