#072 Could not open - Pmail won't show Mailbox Data

FIXED ISSUE

From my Backup - I overwrote all Mailbox files OTHER than my Distribution lists and Address Books, and everything is back to 'reasonable' shape.  Flat folders and no hierarchy, but that is fixable.

Not sure which files were the issue.  It's like losing a limb when email goes down - lol

 Thanks

Hi . . .  Booted Pegasus today (long term user) and have issues I would greatly appreciate some assistance with:

1) The Setup view of Pegasus is back to program default, not the way I left it nor the way I use it.

2)  Unable to view any of my dozens of Folders

3) Unable to view any Address Books or Distribution lists

4) POP mailbox accounts do not show up in TOOLS \ INTERNET OPTIONS

5) The program had reverted back to its default mailbox location, with a few inbox emails being the only thing showing up.

Actions taken (Yes, all my original Addressbooks/ Distribution Lists/ and other Mailbox files still exist in the original location I was using prior to this incident):

- I changed current MailBox Default Location back to my original location, but still no view of the above 1,2,3,4 items

- I have a very OLD backup of all mailbox files but I am reluctant to overwrite all current files en masse.  I am trying to discover which files got corrupted (likely during an incomplete shutdown)

- I have been viewing this resource: http://www.vandenbogaerde.net/pegasusmail/pf_pmfiles.html. - - but so far, no luck deciphering which ones I can safely overwrite.

- I have tried changing hierarch.pm  to hierarch.pm.bak to no avail. Yes I shut down first, and then rebooted program appropriately.

- I have run mbxmaint_ui.exe repair and this is the error it throws:

Repairing folder 'J:\DATA\PMAIL\*.pmm'...
#072 Could not open the specified folder master file.
#074 Unable to proceed with rebuild operation.
** Errors occurred while repairing the folder.
-----------------------------------------------------
Repairing folder 'J:\DATA\PMAIL\ADMIN\*.pmm'...
#072 Could not open the specified folder master file.
#074 Unable to proceed with rebuild operation.
** Errors occurred while repairing the folder.

Forgot to add that I was using 4.61 but have since upgraded to 4.63 - this did not solve my issues.

Thanks

Was new install or update to default c:\pmail location? Was the old version install to default c:\pmail location? If neither was to default location you may need to run PCONFIG to set paths. If using any 64bit OS you will need to use DosBox to run PCONFIG which is still 16bit code.

It does appear you have other problems though and apparently you were able to point mbxmaint_ui to proper drive and location in ..pmail\mail\admin.

Hi Jerry - thanksor getting back.

To clarify ....   the install when the issue occurred was 4.61 and I have never intentionally used the default mailbox.

- I then installed the 4.63 over the old version and it still only would only find default mailbox - I have never run Pegasus from default mailbox as I like clean backup directory off root.

I am using Win7 64 bit - I gave Pconfig a whirl from DOS box and get this:

 C:\>j:\Pmail\Programs\pconfig.exe
This version of j:\Pmail\Programs\pconfig.exe is not compatible with the version
of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whet
her you need a x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then con
tact the software publisher.

I tried Pconfig from DOS box also by hard booting directly to DOS - unfortunately still no go.   Doesn't like 64 bit OS.

Any

ideas which files I can safely use to overwrite to current mailbox from

my very old backup, to avoid overwriting Addressbooks, Distribution

lists etc?  Or are there some program files or something else outside my previous mailbox that look

to be hooped?  The program runs fine now, it just won't view any of my old Mailbox.
