I'm using 4.63 on Windows 7.  I have one copy of Pegasus and have it set up with two users.  One user starts up and Pegasus operates just fine.  However when I start it for the other user I initially get "this mailbox is locked by another process" and there are the buttons to continue or exit.  If I continue, Pegasus appears to start but then locks up.  Most of the screen is washed out but the new mail folder is visible and at the bottom left it says "applying mail filtering rules"  Pegasus stops there.

I have a lot of email saved and really don't want to lose it all. Help please?
The "this mailbox is locked..." message indicates that Pegasus Mail thinks the mailbox is in use.  This warning exists because data corruption will occur if the same mailbox (Pegasus Mail user) is accessed simultaneously by two instances of Pegasus Mail.  You say you have Pegasus set up with two users but it is unclear whether that means two Pegasus Mail users (two mailboxes) or two PC users sharing the same Pegasus Mail mailbox.  Let us know which and we can better advise on how to address the problem.

The washed out effect is W7 telling you you've got a stalled application.  Personally, I think it cries wolf a little too easily, so let it sit for a few minutes and it might resolve.

You might try renaming the file "pmail.ini" to "pmail.ini.old" and restarting.  That will force Pegasus to recreate that file.  It will "forget" all of your settings, so if that doesn't solve the problem, you can just delete the newly created "pmail.ini" and then rename the "pmail.ini.old" back to "pmail.ini".

We have also had some problems with AVG attacking the ini file.  I'm not sure how that was solved, but if you have an IT guy, you might mention that.

Sounds like you might also have a fault in your mail filtering process?  Maybe a logic loop - something being copied or moved over and over?

Renaming the ini file didn't help. I am using Norton, not  AVG.

How can I disable the mail filtering?  (with explorer or editing a file.)

Agin, the other ID works fine so it has to be something wrong in the user's mailbox

I got it working again.  How?

I used explorer, listed files by date/time.  I renamed the newest ones, (all had the same timestamp) to .old. Then I started Pegasus and it started ok. It recreated most of those files.  I had to readjust the display to my liking. All seemed well so I deleted the .old files.

I'm going through all the folders, checking consistency and re-indexing.

:( folders are all messed up now I did make a copy before I did this so if there is a way to recover, I'd be interested.  As it stands Pegasus has eaten several years worth of saved emails that had passwords to forums etc. [:'(]

Just restore from the safety copy.  Sounds like you might also want to call in a professional if you're not comfortable moving ahead from here.

If it were me, I'd make another additional safety copy, burn it to a disc and restore from there.
