Mercury and Win7?

Warnings about incompatibility have been seen on some Windows 7 systems during installation, but at least in those cases Mercury has in fact been correctly installed and there has been no need to re-install. Then only real problem is that Mercury mustn't be installed in the Program Files directory as it's write-protected in Windows 7.

I recently moved from XP to Win7.  Mercury v4.62 simply ran correctly from its old location on disk.  At Rolf's urging, I upgraded, in place, to Mercury v4.74.  There was a small anomaly in doing that.  At the very end of the installation, the Windows Program Compatibility Assistant crashed.  After dismissing the crash dialog I got another dialog asking if I'd like to re-do the installation with (some sort of) compatibility.  I said "yes" and the install started all over again, finishing with no incident.  And Mercury v7.74 seems to run correctly.

Now, if I look at the properties of MERCURY.EXE, "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" is NOT checked.

Has anyone else seen this?  Was it the installer (not Mercury itself) that needed to be run in some compatible mode?
