Second Identity not working well

You can run one copy with multiple mailboxes/users or multiple copies as you have now.

The command line is relevant in both cases.

If right click on the original Pmail desktop icon and select properties you will see the "Target" line containing the command line that starts the program.

This will be something like C:\Pmail\Programs\winpm-32.exe.

There is a command line switch that enables two copies of Pmail or two mailboxes/users to run concurrently.  To add this switch amend the command line to:

C:\Pmail\Programs\winpm-32.exe -MS

If you had only one Pmail installation and two mailboxes/users the command line in each desktop icon would then need an additional switch.

If you had the default mailbox, Admin and added an additional mailbox/user, say Chess, the two command lines would look like the following:

C:\Pmail\Programs\winpm-32.exe -MS -I Admin and

C:\Pmail\Programs\winpm-32.exe -MS I Chess

My goal is to have in Pmail two Identities for two email addresses. When signed into one I do not wish to see anything pertaining to the other.  I have set up an alternative name to the original "default" and when signed in to that identity I set up the appropriate email address. The problem is this identity is still using the same contact list and mailboxes. What is the best way to set up a new set of mailboxes and contact list for my new identity?

To accomplish what you want you need to set up a second User, not a second Identity. Users have all their address book and their own Folder tree and everything and settings and preferences.

Top menu bar Addresses, User management is where you begin. Then you run separate instance using the -ms as part of command line or you may close one instance and then run the other. It is easiest of two desktop icons are used and label each and each with unique properties and target field with complete command line. Then everything will be separate and also easily recognized while in the instance by bottom status bar showing  user name and on desktop by altering the icon.

All including signature files will be unique to that user name. Each will have own mailbox and each in own subdir under \mail\<user> on drive.

Thank you very much. I have run with what you gave me. I now have two PMail Icons on my desktop, and they're identified according to user. I also deleted the unwanted User and Identity I created in the original install while looking for this solution. So that much looks as though it will work nicely. However I do have one more question.

In regard to my newer installation, do I have to remember where I installed it since I did not use the default location as it was already in use?

You don't need a second installation. You can create a new user in the existing copy and run that from its own icon.

I understand what you're saying about a second user through the first installation. However the instructions on how to do that amounted to "look it up in the manual and use the command line". No criticism of that helper is intended here but while the former of those was not necessarily a deal breaker using the command line scares me a little even though I've been computing long enough that I was once proficient in DOS. I therefore played around with things I understood a little better than command lines and ended up with a second installation that looks to me as though it should do what I wanted it to do. On the other hand you obviously know a lot more than I do about PMail and you probably know a lot more than I do about computers so I will ask you. Is the road I'm on the road to trouble to the point I would do well to delete my second installation and break out the manual? The only trouble I can see ahead is that on what I hope are the rare occasions of updates I will have to do each one twice and keep up with the location of my second installation.

The good news about this project from my point of view is that there is no real time pressure. When I get good and ready to enter the lists, the world of email chess competition will be ready to take me in and until then it will go on happily without me. I'd be a lot more pushed if professional or family emails were waiting to be downloaded and read.  Meanwhile I have to work out how to use the software that will track the games for me, hold my notes concerning my thinking, and populate the emails to opponents.
