Mercury Core Process stops responding

Assuming that it worked normally before I would start by running Chkdsk to check for NTFS errors on the disk, and then make sure that no antivirus software or similar is intervening with Mercury's access to files.

I have a Mercury installation that I have been having two issues with recently.

1) The core process will stop processing the queue.  When this happens Mercury Core Process Status and Processing information changes from Idle, next poll: HH:MM:SS to *Active*.  When this happens POP3 and SMTP still are working but the queue just starts building.

Are there any logs to check?  Or does anyone have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?  There are no Windows Event errors.   (See the bottom for environment information)

 2) The 2nd issue involves sending to email addresses hosted by yahoo.com.  The MX records for those domains I am having trouble with show this: mx1.biz.mail.yahoo.com

I have checked many black list and email reputation sites and my domain is not black listed and does not have a negative reputation.  Mercury will try to send the mail then then eventually gives us.  I have turned on session logging (not on now) but nothing ever shows why these emails can't be delivered.  Sometimes the emails are delivered but are delayed for a day or two.  Does anyone have any suggestions on troubleshoot this issue?

Any assistance with these two issues will be greatly appreciated.

Environment:

Mercury Ver. 4.74

OS: XP Pro SP3

AV: Microsoft Forefront 2010, Microsoft Forefront is set to exclude the following locations:  C:\mercury\logs; c:\mercury\queue and c:\mercury\scratch

Mercury is NOT a service.  Loader.exe is used to start Mercury.

If the core process stops working it's most likely because something prevents it from accessing files or directories it requires. It could be a full disk, a defective disk, insufficient access rights or some interfering software. So run the usual disk check tools, verify security settings and exclude all directories that Mercury may need to access from realtime antivirus scanning.

As for the yahoo.com email addresses I think it might be a good idea to take another look at those session logs. At what point does delivery stop? Are there any unreasonably long delays somewhere? Any error messages?

You haven't stated this but I am assuming you are using MercuryE to send directly.  The IP address you are sending from is important.  Most services will have some restrictions on who they will receive from - static IP, good rDNS, etc., and yahoo are one of the strictest.

In addition to what Rolf suggests, check your IP address reputation and reverse DNS.

I have just started to have the same issue in Windows 7 professional with the core process stops responding.  I am not exactly sure what to check as far as permissions go.
