PMAIL v. 4.63 SLOW LAUNCH

Hello Jerry,

Something I found that may be helpful for others regarding my question about Pegasus being slow to launch.

I began having strange occurances with spam mail not being directed to the Junk mail folder and began looking at Spamhalter.  The database had grown very large so I deleted about half of it, but still the problem went on.  I decided to just delete all the Spamhalter database and rebuild it to a current status, ridding my disk of all the old files.

I then disabled Spamhalter and the following day when I returned to work, opened Pegasus and it opened instantly.

I've conclude that the extremely large Spamhalter database was causing the launch problem and probably was also the reason it was taking mail so long to download.

Hope that helps.. regards and thanks

Hi - I recently downloaded v.4.63 and use Win7 64 OS.

It seems since I upgraded that Pegasus takes a very long time to launch.

Suggestions?

regards - Ragsman

Maybe look at suggestions in

and complete thread. Is your default printer a local one to your machine and is driver on your machine? If  printer physically connected is it turned on and available?

Hi Jerry - Thanks for your immediate reply and the link.  I reviewed those links and can now offer results.

After reading the thread, I performed all the following sequentially to isolate the problem.

First, about the printers.  I do have a local printer on the system, an older HP-4 Laser Jet.  It may be helpful to know that this printer is connected to the system via an adapter to a USB plug for the following reasons.

The main reason is because my new desktop does NOT have an on board connector for this <old> printer since because everything these days is USB. (I would have to forfeit a pci slot for a board that supports the connector.  I don't have a pci slot avialable to do so).  I also have the printer on the USB hub because there are 3 other computers that use it on a LAN.  These other computers are all used by me and are not powered on at the moment, they should have no influence on this issue.

When using Pegasus I do often print as .pdf.  As you know, when Pegasus is shut down it retains the printer settings as the previous session.

I reset the Default Printer to the system default, HP-4 printer on LP1.  I then Shut Down the system and did a cold start.  Once the computer was completely booted without any other applications open I launched Pegasus, THEN powered the printer.  At this point the HP-4 printer was NOT powered up.  It took just over 1-minute for Pegasus to load.

I then Shut Down the system again and did another cold start.  The system booted and THEN I powered the HP-4, waited until the Printer was on-line and then Launched Pegaus.

Pegasus took nearly 3-minuntes to launch.

The second booting sequence appears to have worsened this problem.

I'm beginning to wonder if I should revert to the prior version of Pegasus.

thanks - Ragsman
