Asian Characters

Michael,

Hi!  I have sent the email to beta-reports with the CNM file as attachment.  Please do not hesitate to let me know if you do not receive it.

I am sure that your possible solution to this issue is eagerly awaited by many Pegasus users.  We thank you in advance.

Vicente

Hi! Recently I started receiving e-mails from our regional office which had Chinese Characters for the names of some of my colleagues in the distribution list.  What has happened now is that whenever I reply to these emails, or edit and forward, the entire message changes completely to Chinese Characters.  I have been using Pegasus for more than 10 years and I consider it to be my email system for life.  I have activated MIME character set but this has not resolved the issue.  Anyone can help please?

Hi,

This works for me (so far)

1. Press CTRL+A to select all text.

2. Press Reply

3. Select "Selected Portion"

4. New reply message starts with normal English instead of Korean/Chinese.

Regards

Basheer,

Hi!  Thanks for the tip.  Indeed it works and is a good solution to this problem.  What happens is that it converts the whole message into plain text.

 Thanks again.

What's you default charset (on Tools => Options => Advanced settings)? Wouldn't UTF-8 solve your problem once and for all?

Michael,

Hi! Unfortunately I have tried this setting <Advanced Settings + UTF-8> and it does not work.  Given the other comments on this topic, it seems to happen to others as well.  I could bounce a message to you if this will help with the problem solving.

Thanks for the effort.

Hi I know that it is not much help , but we also get the same problem.

If we reply to a message with Korean characters in it.

In our case the mail has come from Germany but from a company that has a Korean HQ.

The machine that it is written on is set up in German , ours  are in UK English, but when we reply. the whole incoming message is converted to Korean characters.

Our answer is just to reply without attaching the original message..

Please don't bounce it since I won't be able to tell it apart from spam:  Instead send it to beta-reports [@] pmail.gen.nz, either as an unmodified attachment to another message (which can be done via drag and drop) or as CNM-file from the new mail folder, see Help => About Pegasus Mail => Info => New mailbox location, the filename can be retrieved by right-clicking the message and opening the Message properties from the context menu.
