I don't think I understand. What are you trying to achieve? And without seeing the (complete raw) message I cannot comment on anything at all.

 Received a message with several empty boxes and a note in each, "The URL does not use a recognized protocal (12006)" and within the attachment tab there are several .jpg files that I can open using my Irfan View with little difficulties.  What is this error code, 12006?

Sounds pretty clear to me, doesn't it? Check the HTML code for what URLs the image tags contain (<img src="URL">) and whether they match the names of the attached image files.

From what I can see after viewing the html coding in my text editor; in response to your question, NO as I am not a coder and the last part, ". . whether they match the names of the attached image files."  That as well is NO.  The attached files are titled "image001.jpg thru image010.jpg" and the only place they are shown is at the beginning of the machine language for the image files.  What I find just for the very first image is as follows:

 The middle row/line is the width of all lines in the html of the file.  If you like I could copy/paste a small portion of the message so you may see how it looks.

The message is not important to spend much time on this issue, was just wondering what went wrong and if I could correct something to make it viewable.

You have to forgive me as I am just a very curious animal, troubleshooter, analyst, tinkerererer if you get what I mean.  I have managed to do my own recovery when my system crashes (BSOD)  from about 1993 up through Win7 64bit, with some suggestions from some of this type of HELP, forums.  I hold membership in about 55 and they have been a large assistance.  If what I have shown you is enough to know it is a lost cause, is not a problem.

You don't need to be a coder to understand: I suppose you know what a URL is (people might call it hyperlink) and Wikipedia is very good at explaining such stuff if not at anything computer related. A protocol is something like http:.

The filenames don't matter here, what matters is the Content-ID header preceding the respective image data, and in your below sample it should look like this:

Content-ID: <F346E79444774626A62FD8BADEDA096E@heintzsteel.com>

IOW: It has to match the contents of the respetive IMG-tag's SRC attribute (any line end equal signs including the line break will be removed by Pegasus Mail before rendering, =3D will be converted to a simple equal sign).

I've now converted the equal signs as to be done by Pegasus Mail before rendering - plus I've highlighted the part which is most probably causing your issue provided the URL hasn't been mangeled by this forum's editor: There's a second blank (= no attribute value) and unterminated (= no closing quotes) SRC tag which most probably overrides the existing one providing the CID value. Simple removing the highlighted part from the above URL will most probably fix your issue.

Yes, aware of the 'URL'  just not aware of the other codes and that is what you are providing, thank you so very muchly.

So what you are telling me in the above quote is, if they are shown as "=3D" means PMail has not made the changes because what I see are the full parts not just the equal signs.  Or PMail will do this in background for PMail use and not change what is in the file.

 Another part I see could also be a problem is "Content-ID header preceding the respective image data" is the same for each of the 'headers' for each of the image files.  NOT each one different for the individual images, so how would it differentiate the different images?  Or is it not possible the way this file is setup?

I am starting to understand some what of how things are supposed to work, this file is just not going to work without much work and I am not that interested in doing that work.  It will just be DELETED and proceed to my next learning . . if that is possible for me to learn?

I would nevertheless like to evaluate a sample message: Could you send such a message to beta-reports @ pmail.gen.nz? You should either send its CNM file (from the new mail folder to find via Help = About Pegasus Mail => Info => New mailbox location), the filename can be found by right-clicking the mail in its folder and opening the Message properties page. Or you may send it attached to a new mail (using drag and drop). Please refer to this thread if doing so.

I will get to that as soon as the message can be located.  Instead of just deleting it I moved it to another location to save it just in case some one wanted to look into or evaluate what is really the problem.  I am very good and protecting things such as this and now have to search out two (2) 320 G H/Ds to see where it was placed.

Just make sure the message is provided without any changes at all, that's why I made my suggestions: It's not my personal preference, it's a requirement for proper evaluation ...

It didn't arrive or was filtered as spam, sorry ...

I sent the original message as a forward to you, could not find the message in the file as you had asked.  Do not know what has gone wrong, now I cannot find a copy of that message any where on my system.  Still need to do a search and it may take some time as I know it was saved in a different area to keep this sort of thingy from happening.  There have been other messages with the same problem, will check to see if there are any of them still here.  Have had so many other issues to deal with here, not on computers, personal as well as some friends.  Maybe next week will be a little different.  Will continue to search for this message to get out to you ASAP!!  Thank you for looking into this, but; also sorry for this 'bump' in the road.

If you "bounce" a message you need to tell me/us which sender and subject to look for: Since we get large amounts of spam (up to 1 MB per message) we simply cannot check each and every message for its contents if they don't provide a "speaking" subject by themselves (I need to access this account via IMAP on a relatively slow connection for checking).

Have had problems finding this message again, Was removed some time ago and is not within the In Box, found it as an HTML and had been saved as a TXT file, which do you want me to send?  The HTML is smaller, 12kb, the TXT is 386 kb.  Also have found a copy with full header and I have removed my friend's email addy and it is 388 kb.  If you like I can zip it using 7Zip as that is the one I use.

Have had other issues here that needed to be dealt with and those issues are not fully done yet.  Took a break to see what I could find.  Have had other forwards with the same error issue of "501 Syntax error in arguments" and have checked all email addies and not found any problems, plus removed all previously used addies that were listed in "Recently - used" listing.  Still having same issue.

Size doesn't matter if you zip it up: I just need the unmodified HTML no matter how.

Found the originial message and have sent it as the CNM, the only file within the In Box with the subject of "501 Syntax error in arguments" so watch for it.

 Also have several other files that have the same error message.  So it may not be just this one file, it may actually be a problem with the handling of the HTML.  There may have been some changes made since the last version of Pegasus was created and put out of us to use.  It just seems strange some are AOK and another will present this error.

Got it and looked into it: There's nothing we can do about it since the SRC URLs simply don't use the proper IDs matching the images included with the respective message. It's a systematic error which can only be fixed on the sender's/creator's site, sorry. It appears to be related to incorrectly forwarding HTML messages with embedded images.

 Have opened the message in a web browser (FireFox v27.x) and saved the images to my H/D and attempted to send them on and some are still giving this error message, "The URL does not use a recognized protocal (12006)." Have also opened the 'image' file with my EditPad Lite v7.x and cannot find any reference to the part you had explained in your message at "//community.pmail.com/forums/post/36101.aspx" that you high-lited src=" if you want me to send you a portion of the opening part of the image file, it will be done.

What are you trying to achieve? These messages are heavily broken and I'm not really willing to put much effort into this since it's not going to solve the issue once and for all. The sender needs to fix it, that's the only valid approach here.

Further on: The broken code is to be found in the HTML section of the message, not in any image file at all.

Never mind then as I am just not sure what is happening.
