SMTP envelope - Emails display incorrect address

Well, none of the changes I made to authentication settings

would cure the problem, so I have given up and simply created another BT

address to use instead of the Tiscali one.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The daft thing is that we were using BT exclusively more

than 10 years ago, and only added the Tiscali address when BT suddenly “upgraded”

their system so that it would no longer transmit via our dial-up connection.   No problems with BT since we got their

broadband about 3 years ago.

I still don’t know whether our problem was in the BT or the

Tiscali system, though a Google search suggests that a lot of folk have had

problems with  Tiscali/TalkTalk recently.

We use one Tiscali and one BTopenworld email address.  For the past 8 years Pegasus Mail has been

sending the Tiscali.co.uk emails via the btopenworld.com connection without any

problems.   Until yesterday they showed

correctly showed the Tiscali address.   Today

the tiscali emails are still transmited, but are now shown as having been sent by the

SMTP settings:  

Server host name:   mail.btopenworld.com

Server TCP/IP port:   25

Alternate email address for the SMTP envelope:   MyAddress@btopenworld.com

Login to SMTP server using btopenworld  username & password.

 

Have either BT or Tiscali changed something yesterday?   How can I make the Tiscali emails show the

correct source address?

Both computers are running Pegasus Mail 4.63 with Windows 7,

one 32-bit and the other 64-bit.

Where are they "showing" the wrong address?  Do you mean the "From: xxxx" address in the header is being changed?

How do you normally change between the two addresses - do you have different identities?  Check that they are both set up correctly.

I wonder if btopenworld has started doing what Gmail does which is changing the From address to the address used

for authentication.  If so then you may

have no choice but to create identities for Tiscali configured to use

Tiscali SMTP servers and identities for btopenworld configured to use btopenworld SMTP servers.
