All IDs, POP3 and SMTP settings lost!

Good that you got it sorted. The OLD file should be a backup of the PMAIL.INI file from the time when Pegasus was upgraded. The timestamp of the PMAIL.INI file is updated at the end of each Pegasus run.

Opened PM4.6 to all sorts of error messages, turns out my hard drive was out of space. Freed up space, opened PM, which now welcomes me to PM4.6--but font is different and all IDs/mail settings are gone. Folders, filters, and emails are still there.

Don't understand why this happened, because PM runs from EXTERNAL drive, where all content is stored.

At any rate--a few weeks back, I backed up the ENTIRE PM folder on an external drive.

QUESTION: Is it possible to either restore the settings from within PM--or to selectively replace the files containing the settings only (which have not changed since the backup), without interfering with recent messages (of which there have been hundreds since the backup)?

And how the heck do I do that?

Thanks for any lifesaving answer!

Running XP SP3 here.

PS--I recently upgraded from an older PM (4.1c I think) to 4.6, and don;t know whether the backup was done before or after that--or how to find out. If it matters.

I suppose I could just open PM from the backup folder and copy down the settings, then transfer them manually--or will that screw something up since the PM directory it will seek when I open it is not in the backup folder?

Pretty much any file in the Home and New mailbox locations except .PMM, .PMI, .CNM, .PMO, .PMW, .PMX is an addressbook, setting, rule, definition, etc. file of some sort. Initially you'll want to look at PMAIL.INI, IMAP.PM (if you use IMAP), and .PND (POP3 & SMTP def) files.

Thanks, I'm assuming you mean look at the backup and open with Notepad?

Then, what--just copy the files over into the working directory?

Or are you saying to look at those and then reenter info manually in the program?

HA! Okay--all of the PNDs appear to be exactly the same. But I noticed the PMAIL.INI you told me to take a look at is dated today. Just below it is one dated two months ago, now called PMAILINI.OLD. I changed the OLD to filename PMAILINI.INI--and everything is back.

THANK YOU!
