Tools/Options/Gemeral settomgs/Mailbox location Not working as advertised . .

None of that nor any other idea will do any good  .  .  it seems the Mail folder I saved had mail in it from about 5 - 7 years ago, not any of the most recent.  Do not know where the most recent was saved, every thing was supposed to have been on that Micro Mini Chip.  That is what was moved and saved.

BFluet,

Thank you for the assistance all you gave me to do went well , except where I screwed it into a deep dark bottomless pit.  This is my clue to stop trying to learn more and learn to live with what I have before that is gone.

This has nothing to do with Pegasus Mail or your forums, This is due to my getting to be too old to do what I want, now is my time to do what is needed.  This is one time you cannot do anything about it, because; I am the cause of what has happened.

Thank you so very much for your patience and assistance

idw,

As you had suggested, copy mail folder to a safe location and remove Pegasus Mail then reinstall.  Done!  The complete operation went well, until the attempt to set the location for my Mail Box.  This will not change to my preferred location.  I set my install to do a -roam so it would all go on to a Micro Mini chip where it was installed before.  Even followed the instructions to relocate these mail boxes where the folder is for my previous install.  According to the instructions doing them will cause Pegasus to close down and run 'mailbox management utility to relocate your mailbox.'  I have entered the location in the 'Path' box and used the check box for "Move Mailbox contents to new location"; also without checking that box without any success.  None of my original mailboxes show in my new install nor any of my mail stored there.  It keeps reverting to a location that is not any where on my system.

Any ideas?  Also have left all settings to default for MIME setup.

It would be helpful to know the state of the current installation as

seen from the eyes of Pegasus Mail.  The way to do that is to post the

contents of the "Pegasus Mail Information" window which is displayed

when you click the "Info" button located in Help | About Pegasus Mail.

After receiving your message a search was conducted to find where this "Mailbox Location" Path is stored, it was found and did an edit on the file to correct it so my mail would be kept in the same location as the program, well the "Mail" folder as a sub-folder of 'PMail'.  It is now saved where I wanted, but; my previous saved mail is still not being shown in this fresh install.

This tells me that Pegasus is installed on drive I: which must be the Micro Mini chip.  It also shows the home mailbox location at I:\PMAIL\MAIL and the new mailbox location at I:\PMAIL\MAIL\Admin.  In your case these should be the same.  You said that you made an edit to correct the mailbox location but did not say what file you edited or whether the "mailbox location" was the "home" or "new" mailbox.   If the edit was successful the "Info" window should now show location for both the home and new mailbox as I:\PMAIL\MAIL\Admin.  If it doesn't then report back because there is still a problem.  If it does, read on.

Next use Windows Explorer to check the contents of the I:\PMAIL\MAIL directory.  You should see one file named PMAIL.USR and one directory named ADMIN.

If you are OK with a single user setup and with the default user of ADMIN then the next step is to copy messages, folders, addressbooks & dlists from your saved mailbox directory to the new one (I:\PMAIL\MAIL\ADMIN).  First close Pegasus Mail then use Windows Explorer to copy all files with the following extensions:  .CNM, .PMM, .PMI, .PML, & .PRM.  You should not have any overwrite prompts during this process.  If you

do, make note of the filename then cancel.  Post the filename for

advice.  You do not want to copy any configuration files as they may bring along old problems.

Once done, fire up Pegasus and see where you are at.  The files for anything else you may want (filter rules or the recently used address list for instance) can identified by referring to the list of filenames and extensions located at

http://www.vandenbogaerde.net/pegasusmail/pf_pmfiles.html.  Again, be careful not to copy any configuration files.  Question any file copy that prompts for overwrite approval.  If you think it's ok, cancel the copy, rename the original in case you need it, then do the copy.

HTH!

"bfluet,"

In part to your message, YES, you are correct about the "I:\" being the Micro Mini Chip and the IDs of the 'Home' and "ADMIN" mail boxes.  Now about that file I Edited with EditPad Lite v7.x my preferred editor, not using NotePad.  The file I edited is "PMail.ini" in the folder ADMIN.  The mail boxes are not the same as I use or monitor three (3) different email addies yet use only one access or user account, ADMIN.

A little explanation here, I moved the entire folder + sub-folders to a safe location, out of the PMail folder, of the Micro Mini Chip, that contained Programs folder as well.  Used VS Group Revo Uninstaller to remove Pegasus Mail.  Downloaded a fresh copy and created a ICON link to run install with -ROAM command line creating desktop icon for ADMIN and under Start Menu for Win7 64bit.  Cannot remember all of what I had done to get where I am now, but; I did something right because all of my hook-ups to my mail server went without a problem.  I have three (3) email addies I am monitoring and they are all AOK!  None of my mail boxes have shown in Pegasus Mail, have had to create some to save a few messages.  None of my SPAMHalter has made it over to this new install.

The edited file is "PMail.ini" in the ADMIN folder in the Mail folder of my Micro Mini Chip.  The top five (5) lines of that file were like these are: (they are from the saved copy)

"[General]
Personal name                             = 'd'
Home mailbox location                     = O:\PMAIL\MAIL
Folder for copies to self                 = Mine
Commenting string                         = "> " "

The HOME mail box line is the one I edited, this is from the original .INI file and has not been edited so I have this info for you.  I also have a USB H/D 320 gig partitioned out to "O:" yet there is not a folder on that drive as identified above.  When I used Pegasus to make the change to "I:\PMail\Mail" then ticked the check box then 'Move now' nothing took place, not once but several times.  Even with the chcek box un-ticked,  Pegasus did not shut down as explained in the instructions on that page.  When I moved elsewhere to check mail or read or whatever and returned that was still "O:" and that is when started to investigate where that was being stored and found it in the 'PMail.ini' file.  That file is the one that is within the "I:|PMail]Mail\ADMIN" edited to correct that issue.  This shown above is from my original.

It is now showing correctly within Pegasus Mail under Tools/Options/General Settings/Mailbox location.  Have not started into your further instructions yet.  Attempting to get this straight and clear.  Will post this much before going on with the remainder.

As for these ".CNM, .PMM, .PMI, .PML, & .PRM" it is like this,  ".CNM" there are not any; ".PRM" may just be ".PMR: as there are not any as the former; the other, ".PMM, .PML, .PMI," are there.  Explorer has the ability to display just the files I want sorted by the extensions.  I moved the "Type" before the file names so they are easier to select and highlight for the move.

I await your verdict on the PRM vx ".PMR" and none of the ".CNM",  In the drop down listing for the "Type" there is not a listing for ".CNM" is there another to replace that one?

I don't know what a .prm file is and don't see it listed in the list of filenames and extensions.  You might try viewing one with a text editor to see if you can determine what it contains.  As for .cnm files, these are new mail files.  You would not have any if your new mail folder was empty at the time you captured (moved) the mailbox directory.

I just realized that a detailed post I thought I had made earlier today did not show up.  It contained a recommendation and instructions to rebuild the PMAIL.INI file to make sure you were starting clean.  It looks like you are moving mailbox directory contents now so continue on and we'll see what happens.
