Deleted folder, restoring a large file back into pmail directory

> Any thoughts on how I might be able to find the "deleted" folder contents?

After restoring an old version of the file in the same directory? No way [:(]

For the future: if accidently deleting a folder within Pegasus, close Pegasus and do nothing within Windows. Get a recovery tool (if you don't already have, do it on another PC), start it from CD/DVD/USB-Stick/memory card (don't install it on the PC!), go to the directory, where the folderfile resided (your mailboxdirectory) and try recovering the file from deletion. If you do anything within windows (specially if windows writes anything to disc), the on deleting freed sectores of the file may be overwriten and the recovery tool is not able to collect (all) the sectors for recovering the file.

That's what we tell our users here, if they accidently delete anything on their local disks. Most times we are able to recover, if they heed our advice.

Hi, I have a huge problem.  I have inadvertenly deleted a a folder that contains over 1000 emails over 5 years.  The good part is that I have a back up of my pmail as of July 3/12 so for the vast majority of them I am saved.

I have tried recovery software to see if the file is still on my computer somewhere but it is not.  Is there anything else that I may try in order to find that deleted file?

On a thumb drive I have my entire Pmail folder, I have gone and "guessed" which file I need as it is the largest file in the lot, some 420,000 KB.  I have tried to copy/paste it into the Pmail/mail/admin folder on my computer but it then still does not show up when I open up pegasus.  What am I doing wrong?  It shows that it is a part of my pmail folder now, but when I look in my folders it doesn't show up there.

Thanks in advance for help

I have searched the forums

You should copy the .PMM and the .PMI file to the mailbox directory.

Or...
Run the Pegasus Mail Mailbox Maintenance utility (PMail\Programs\mbxmaint_ui.exe) and "Repair" the .PMM file.
The utility will rebuild the index (.PMI) file.

Be careful to not overwrite the current folder file pair if you want to save the current data. Instead put the restored folder pair into another directory somewhere and then use the add mailbox  function to view and/or copy the necessary messages to current folder or new mail folder.

Pegasus file can not use read only marked files or read only attribute files from backup or media. The R attribute must be removed from there, Also never try to move or copy old message folders into winpm-32 while it is running. Shut down first and then move and then restart.

Thanks, I've got the up to July contents back....Any thoughts on how I might be able to find the "deleted" folder contents?  I realize that some is better than none, but it's sensitive info and my bad for not backing up regularly etc...

I have tried every recovery software out there and have not been able to recover the missing pmail file.  I've even tried a system restore point to go back in time and it does do everything except pmail items.  I wish there was that connection between a system computer restore and pmail.  But it seems that it restores everything but your pmail....if anyone comes up with a plan pls fwd.

tks!!

Have you tried adding the mailbox directory that is on your thumb drive as an added mailbox to your folder list?  If the deleted folder is visible in the added mailbox you can then copy what you need from it.
