salvaging emails

I moved all the .pmm and .pmi files into the new installation.   Some of the folder names were garbled.  With those and all others I did a right click, index folder.  Then most of the emails showed as unknown so I deleted them.  The copyself.pmm didn't seem corrupted and it looks like all the emails were there after the reindex.  The ones I need for the court case were ok.

I installed windows 8, hated it and re-installed windows 7 on my laptop.  The HP rep told me exactly how to do this so I would not lose any of the data I had on the hard drive.  He told me totally wrong so I ended up with a fresh install and all my data was lost, about 250 gig.  I took the computer to CompUSA and they were able to recover most of the loss.  The problem is that a portion of what they recovered is corrupted.  Unfortunately, Pegasus was quite corrupted.  Many of the folders are entitled with garbled characters and the contents are also garbled.

I have discovered that copyself.pmm contains a large number of emails and they don't seem to be corrupted. The emails however are all run together and cannot be separated. Is there any way I can recover the contents of this folder and perhaps some others?  Some of the emails date back as far as 2005 and are very important to a court case.  I do need them.

 Thanks

I believe Martin Ireland has developed a utitlity for splitting up mail folders into separate messages. However, another way to do this would be by accessing copyself folder in Pegasus and move or copy the messages you require to the new mail folder. That way, they'll be converted into separate *.cnm files. Hope this helps.

The utility is Notsplit, which is available on this site at url: http://community.pmail.com/files/folders/utils/entry3962.aspx
