I think I've fixed problem (1) on my laptop by running wsendto.exe in Win XP SP3 compatibility mode.  Why this should help, I don't know:  the apparently identical configuration on my desktop (also Win 7 Pro x64, same Pegasus, same settings) lets mailto: links work fine without that compatibility setting.

That leaves a minor irritation which is nothing to do with Pegasus:  every call to PMail on the laptop, including invoking a mailto: link when PMail is already up and running, requires me to confirm a UAC warning.   I seem to have managed to kill that on the desktop, but I can't remember how.  If anyone can remind how to disable that piece of Win 7 protection just for PMail, I'd be very grateful.

But my problem (2) with Pegasus on the laptop still persists:  I can't drag and drop files into the attachment pane.  This is a renewed plea for help on that one.  TIA.

Two irritations with installation of PMail on laptop (v.4.63, Win 7 Professional SP1).

1. I can no longer click on MailTo links in browsers:  I get the message from WSendTo "Could not communicate with Pegasus Mail".  I have clicked on Tools | Options |Hyperlinks | System mailer in Pegasus and also confirmed in Control panel | Default programs that PMail has all its defaults.  Doesn't help.

2. I cannot drag and drop an attachment into the attachment window.  I have to click Add attachment and go through menus.  The option for multiple attachments is enabled.

What confuses me is that my desktop installation (same Windows, same Pegasus, same setup as far as I know) has neither of these problems.  Suggestions on where to look?  Thanks.

Check to see if the maillto: protocol is set to wsendto.exe. 

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Default Programs

Select Pegasus Mail.  Select "Choose defaults for this program" 

I don't have any suggestions regarding the attachment drag & drop problem. It works fine on my Win7 Pro 64 bit machine.

I had checked under Set Default Programs, and the mailto: protocol is indeed set to wsendto.exe.  I couldn't see any difference between the desktop PC (where it works) and the laptop (where it doesn't), hence my request for help.  Thanks anyway for trying.

Hi - if you have installed Pegasus Mail under the default x:\Program Files directory, you will need to re-install it under x:\PegasusMail (or whatever you want to name it).

For whatever reason, the program does not function under ..\Program Files because of the way the default permissions are set. Suitable access is not granted. Installing it off the root of your desired drive gets around this and allows changes to the modules to be made.

I couldn't have been following this forum for years without knowing this.  None of my three installations of Pegasus 4.63 are installed under ..\Program Files - all are in C:\PMAIL.  That's why I'm baffled why one of the three is behaving differently.

It might help to switch the MAPI default to another email application and then switch back to Pegasus Mail to get it working.
