IMAP server side search not possible?
As mentioned elsewhere Pegasus Mail's IMAP code is completely being rewritten by David Harris, and it appears to be one of the harder tasks as he recently complained to us beta testers. It currently has multiple limitations and is one of the remaining major reasons for crashes as I can tell by crash dumps submitted.
I believe that it's no fun to deal with IMAP and I wouldn't like to do it, too.

But a good IMAP implementation is a must have today.

Sadly there are not many options these days. Maybe the least evil is Thunderbird, but I will investigate also eM Client and Claws.

Hello All,

ist it true that I can't do a server side search with Pmail?

This has been discussed at length.  Did you search the archives before asking the question?

maybe I had a typo in the search query. "server search imap" yields two threads, the first is applicable:

"IMAP searching (server-side)" 2010-10-14, Thomas R. Stephenson answered that the body must be downloaded and a somewhat evasive answer to the question whether " this a limitation of pegasus or the IMAP protocol".

I don't consider this "at length", so you likely have a better search phrase or - even better - a link to a more informative thread?

I have to admit that I have not tried using the Pegasus search facility when operating with an IMAP connection, However it does not appear that the problem is with the IMAP protocol per se.   I have just been using the Android mail client on my Nexus tablet to do searches in folders on my Yahoo mail account which it connects to via IMAP.  I did only test searching for senders names but that at least does appear to work.

What is it that you are trying to do that appears not to work?

full text search in mails stored on the server without downloading them.

I don't think this would be possible without installing or accessing server side software ...?

OK well 'm not sure to what extend my Nexus downloaded the emails but I did a text search for a word that was only in the body of emails on my yahoo account using as above the Android client with and IMAP connection and it came back with apparently correct results in about a second.

If I get a chance I may try it with Pegasus connected to our corporate Mercury server later.

That's a well known IMAP feature supported by many servers.

See https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3501#section-6.4.4

In this case its more about the program than the server and Pail doesn't.

You need to download the messages.
