Win7_64bit_Pinning PegasusMail to Status Bar?

[quote user="bfluet"]

As already stated, Pegasus Mail will not pin when it is not "installed" (e.g. it is being run from a LAN location, USB device, SD card, external drive).  This is not a limitation of Pegasus Mail but one of Win7.  You must trick Win7 by pinning an installed program then changing the properties of that pin to those of a Pegasus Mail shortcut.

This has been done not once but several times using different programs, Scotty the watch dog BillP Studios & Irfvan View with a copy remaining pinned either on the Status Bar and/or Start button top previous run programs and even remained with the previous programs Icon and changing to PM's Icon.  None would work, have changed all back to the original programs and Icons.  Just need to learn to live with this the way it runs and works.

Thank you for all suggestions and the assistance.  With all the other difficulties that have transpired over this last weekend I am surprised my system even works . . .

Why is it that we cannot 'Pin' Pegasus Mail to the status bar as other programs can be?

Hey, great for you, but; mine will not give the option to pin to taskbar, only close PegasusMail.  Will not give me the option to pin to the area at the "Start/RecentlyUsed" programs, the icon will show but not the ability to pin-it to that menu.  Must be my Win7 SP1 is not reading the PegasusMail execution file correctly to pen-it.

I interpreted Status Bar to mean the Quick Launch on the Task Bar.  [:(]

Is Pegasus run from a network- or non-local drive? Depending on your UAC- and firewall-settings Win7 will not allow that.

Workaround: Call another program and pin it to the taskbar. Stop that program, edit his properties and enter appropriate call for Pegasus EXE, change the symbol, maybe execution directory and everything is fine for Win7 ;-)

FJR,

Excuse me for taking so long to reply, have had to restore my system to an earlier time and just now getting back into thingys again.

No, PM is not run on a network nor a local drive, it is on a SD Micro-Mini chip and works great.  I am using the feature to run it on a USB stick, except it is on a Chip.  Have done what you have suggested and it does not work.  How I did this was open a program then pinned it to the Task Bar then went to that same icon and opened it through Properties and edited as you said with PM's location to execute.  Then clicked that Icon and when PM open right clicked to pin it to Task Bar, all that was given was to Close the window.

Thank you for this attempt, just will not work for me. .

You should have been done after changing the properties of the previously pinned app.  The idea was to pin a different app then assign the Pegasus Mail properties to that pin.

FWIW, the reason you can't pin directly is because Pegasus Mail is not "installed" as far as Win7 is concerned.

Evidently you never read what I put in that message.  There is a full explanation, except for the one I used which is Irfvan View, and it will not work.

Better go visit a Win7 forum then because I just did it using VLC Media Player.  Only caveat I encountered is that the icon did not display as the Pegasus Mail icon until after I restarted Win7.

The subject of your post refers to "Status Bar".  I have tested by both pinning to the start menu and by pinning to the taskbar.  I don't know what pinning to the "Status Bar" could be.  If it's not the taskbar or the start menu please clarify.

My Brain and fingers are not cooperating with me at this time, I had all through that message put 'statusbar' and knew it did not sound right, changed them to 'Task Bar' guess I missed a few references.  I have attempted to use the Start Button Remembered/last run programs and that one, Pegasus Mail Icon, will not pin either.  Other programs do pin in both places . .
