Win8 "cannot connect to Pegasus"

In the new installation I had forgotten to set is to run as admin. Once done, the problem is solved (well, everytime I run PM, Windows asks permission, but that's not a serious issue).

I have just to climb to learning curve now, in particular identities and multiple accounts. Something to play with in the week-end [:D]

Thanks for your help. [D]

Worked fine under 7. Peg works but not if I click on an email link on a web site. That's the error I get.

I can open it. Send/receive from it, just refuses to open directly from a website. What am I missing?

Did you try the System mailer button in tools, options, hyperlinks tab? Maybe win8 wants you to run as administrator to make system changes. Try running setpmdefault.exe from same location as where winpm-32.exe is installed while winpm-32 is closed and then restart winpm-32.

This probably means that your machine does not define the Mailto: protocol as invoking Wsendto.exe in the Pegasus Mail executables directory. If you have Wssetup.exe in your Pegasus Mail executables directory, you should run it to get the Mailto: protocol process established. Your installation of Pegasus Mail should have already placed Wsendto.exe in the Pegasus Mail executables directory.

I guess I'll have to play a little more. The problem is in Chrome. Haven't really tried in FF or IE. Just that it used to work in 7 with all browsers. I didn't clean install, just upgraded from 7 so I don't know what could have changed. Didn't touch Peg. And It's like once every 20 years I click on an email link in a web site. :)

Kind of a PITA to copy a link, then manually open Peg and paste it in. :/

I have the same problem. (tried the above) Keep getting "Could not communicate with Pegasus mail".

It worked fine under win7. Upgraded to 8 and here I sit.

What were you trying to do when you got the error message?

Clicked on an email address on a website. Peg does work well, just not thru a web email address. I rarely do that and I think I had the same problem with win7 but don't remember the fix to it.

What does your (translated from German, so the exact wording might be different) Control Panel => Default Programs => Pegasus Mail screen look like? [Below's mine:] Sorry, for some reason I'm getting an error when trying to append a picture. So: Is Pegasus Mail set as default mailer and MAPI handler on that screen?

Yeah, Peg is the default mailer.

Yeah, Peg is the default mailer.

When in the Control Panel => Default Programs => Pegasus Mail window select the Choose defaults for this program option at the bottom (assuming this window looks the same in Win8 as it does in Win7). You are looking to see that Pegasus Mail is associated with both MAILTO and "Send mail".

Do you have any other mailer installed so you can just switch to the other one and back again to Pegasus Mail? In the past I got the feeling that this might be required in some cases. BTW, here's the screenshot:

Yeah that's what it looks like.

But if I go into the "mail" section it's set to MSmail and I can't disable it.

Mailto protocol is peg but MS-MAIL is below it and I can't uncheck it.

Sure, you can't disable it: It gets disabled by setting another program as default, this is the only way it works. IOW: You need to set Pegasus Mail as default to disable MSmail. Since I'm using Win7 I can't provide anymore details about Win8, though, I don't really understand what you mean by "mail" section, e.g..

I confuse me all the time. :)

But the peg section is set right.

With it set right, If I go to "mail" section, The MAILTO, which is set to default peg mail WSENDTO utility is unchecked. I can check it but below it MS-MAIL is current default "mail". And I can't uncheck it.

Of course not sure if the "mail" section is related. One would think it would be email.

Sorry, but I don't understand, can you please post a screenshot (via the Options tab at the top of the forum editor, see below):

IIRC, win8 was vastly different than 7 as far as email went.

Maybe you need to install MAPIPM and click Tools => Options => Hyperlinks => System mailer in Pegasus Mail afterwards for changing that one. For some further instructions see here.

Already did that. Like I said this is an upgrade (not a clean install) from win 7 to 8 and it worked fine in 7. IIRC I had some hoops to jump thru to get it to work in 7. Just seems odd that 8 wouldn't pick it up automatically.

I upgraded... probably about a year ago. Never got to 8.1 yet. I rarely use a web page link to email but it's a PITA to have to cut and paste instead of just click and go.

Also, FWIW, it isn't browser specific. Any one I use I get the same result.

Maybe you need to start another thread for getting feedback from other people using Win8?
