Pmail is locking up

Those 6 cnm files are raw new message files and obviously one has a serious problem. You do not *need* them but you may *want* 5 of them since they are new mail messages that you may or may not have already read depending on what happens to read mail on closure. Try moving the cnm files back in one at at time starting with the oldest date/time stamp one first. It is most likely the latest date/time stamp one will be the problem message. You can open that file in Notepad just to see who the message was from and what the subject was at the least.

I have v4.63 of Pmail and I updated IE Rendering and Bearhtml.  When I used Pmail about an hour ago, I was sending a short message with a 36kb attachment.  I hit send and it ran and ran and ran and never got past 14% sent.  I stopped sending and closed Pmail and restarted it.  Now it will not even open.  It says another copy is open.  I did a cold reboot of my Win 7 31 bit system and I still have the problem.

Hope someone has a suggestion.  Thanks, Bobbie

Use task manager to see if another copy really is running. Ctrl+Shift+Esc or right click on bottom system bar and use right click menu option.

If no other winpm-32 listed  then navigate to your home/new mail box location and check to see if you have any .lck file? If so delete it that lockfile and then try to restart winpm-32 again.

It may be necessary to see if there is and saved draft message stuck in the queue. Check for any .pmw or .pmx files in the queue. Come back if you need further instructions on how to handle those files or how to check them using text editor.

I removed all .lck, .pmw and .pmx files.  All were dated yesterday when I had the original problem.  I did a cold boot and still have the problem.

Can I save all my folders and hierarchy and reinstall pmail and then add my folders and hierarchy?

Bobbie

What you have done shows problem is not a lock file active or any waiting .pmw or .pmx outbound message file. There are other possibilities though.

If you reinstall, which is hardly ever necessary, you may still have same problem.

If anything causes or does rebuild or update of hierarch.pm file any trays will be lost and will appear at top main level and there is no way to automatically rebuild tray structure.

Were you using any trays? Just normal messages folders? Any added folders  other than those in your home mail box?

No other folders except home mailbox.    I was not using any trays either.  Bobbie

If there is no outbound message stuck in queue then it may well be an inbound message that is causing the lockup. Try temporarily moving all .cnm files to some temp location and then try restart with them missing. If restart of winpm-32 is successful then problem is with new mail message. Try moving the new messages .cnm files back in small groups or one at a time to test for problem message.

It may even be possible the failed send message is now being sent back with failure notice and that is in fact what is causing the lockup.

What command line is being used to start winpm-32? Could you add -o (letter o) to line to try to start in offline mode to test?

I found 6 .cnm files. I move all of them.  Pmail now works.  Do I need to replace those files or are they unnecessary?

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
