Migration and upgrading problems
At the moment I run Pegasus mail v4.63 with Win7 Ultimate in a new Pc, having migrated and upgraded from Win XP AND v4.41.
From the open Folder manager window I cannot select any folder just by keying (part of) its name -- or so I thought. More beneath. There is no (universal) choice but scrolling to the folder I want.
Yet in view of the installation experience I am rather astonished that everything else seems to work to satisfaction.
Firstly while the XP was still working I should have upgraded the v4.41.
Instead in Win7 the oldest version officially available is v4.52 and I installed it (the second mistake: ) on top of the C:\Pmail\Mail\Admin into which v4.41 folder C:\Pmail\Mail\ had been copied. Reminded that the on-top method should not have been attempted I nevertheless went on to
-- save the newly completed C:\Pmail\Mail\Admin, followed by
-- uninstall and
-- a clean install of v4.63 and,
-- using this recent save (: the third mistake), copy back to C:\Pmail\Mail\Admin some selected files (http://www.vandenbogaerde.net/han_lkfr.htm):
*.CNM - new mail
*.PMM, *.PMI - saved mail folders
*.PMR, *.PM! - address books
*.PMS - signatures (title bar texts not recovered, formatted versions but no essential data missing)
*.PML - distribution lists
*.PMN - annotations
*.PMP - notepad
*.PMO - saved messages
WINPMFUA.PM - recent addresses
Two files not copied were MEMORY.PM and (probably) PMFOLDER.PM.
Yet another irregularity was to merge the Pegasus-created 'Main folder' and 'Junk or suspicious mail' data into the file listing all the other *.PMM, *.PMI data. I am not sure but would the files listing the v4.63-created and the saved *.PMM, *.PMI data have had the same name? Now 'Main folder' and 'Junk or suspicious mail' appear in the Folder manager window among all the rest in their alphabetical position which is rather too inconspicuous. Interestingly these too folders *can* be selected via the keyboard. So there are two issues, keyboard operability and the Folder manager window setup.
I suppose the installing of v4.63 from the scratch and adding a selection of the original v4.41 files is a possibility (losing some recent posts from the system). But how to avoid/resolve the Folder manages issues? Even better, can these issues be handled without a new installation?
